Indie developer Beck & Branch Games and publisher Neem Interactive have announced that Grain Rot will launch for PC via Steam on August 7, 2026, following an impressive reception during its demo period.
The cooperative horror extraction game quickly gained momentum ahead of release, amassing nearly 200,000 wishlistsand more than 350,000 demo downloads. It also ranked among the Top 15 most-played demos during June’s Steam Next Fest, making it one of the event’s standout indie titles.

In Grain Rot, up to four players work together as fragile wooden vessels exploring dangerous underground ruins in search of valuable loot. Every successful expedition helps expand and improve an Outpost base, but survival is never guaranteed. Players must contend with terrifying monsters, increasingly hazardous depths, and even the unpredictable actions of their own teammates.

One of the game’s unique mechanics revolves around the Living Spark. When a player’s wooden vessel is destroyed or catches fire, the Spark survives and can possess another vessel, allowing the adventure to continue deeper into the mysterious ruins.

Exploration also encourages creative resource gathering. Furniture and environmental objects can be smashed apart for crafting materials or fed into a Grinder to generate gold, giving players multiple ways to prepare for future runs.

While teamwork is encouraged, Grain Rot also embraces chaotic multiplayer moments. Players can intentionally knock teammates out of their vessels, leave them behind during monster attacks, or create unexpected problems throughout an expedition. However, there’s a risk to causing too much trouble—if the entire team is wiped out, all collected loot is lost.

Combining cooperative extraction gameplay, base building, destructible environments, and plenty of opportunities for friendly sabotage, Grain Rot aims to deliver a horror experience where surviving the monsters may be easier than surviving your friends.
