Gaijin Entertainment and the Matter Team have announced that Active Matter, a hardcore online shooter set in a fractured multiverse, will officially launch on September 15, 2026, for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Active Matter combines realistic modern weapons, equipment, and tactical combat with a world where the laws of physics can change without warning. Players will explore unstable environments filled with gravity-defying anomalies, strange SCP-style objects, and quantum-unstable creatures that can attack from unexpected directions.
The game takes players to locations that feel both familiar and completely alien, including a Soviet closed island, a quarantine zone in Central Africa, and a decaying North American city. These areas have been transformed by the unstable multiverse and are filled with valuable resources as well as deadly threats.
At the center of the experience is active matter, a mysterious substance capable of bending time and space. Players must venture into dangerous zones to locate the substance, complete objectives, collect valuable loot, and fight both hostile creatures and rival human operatives before attempting to make it back to safety.

Every successful extraction provides an opportunity to prepare for the next expedition, creating a cycle of exploration, combat, looting, and strategic planning. The unpredictable environments mean players can’t rely solely on traditional tactics, forcing them to adapt to threats that can emerge from almost anywhere.
An early version of Active Matter has already undergone extensive testing through Gaijin’s platform, with the latest major update adding a decaying American city and new weapons. The development team plans to continue expanding the game following launch, with regular updates introducing new content and opening access to additional areas of the fractured multiverse.

Players who previously purchased the early version of Active Matter through the Gaijin Store will receive access to a comparable edition on Steam at no additional cost. Progress can also be linked between the Gaijin Store and Steam versions, allowing PC players to continue their progression regardless of which platform they use.
Active Matter launches September 15, 2026, on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The standard edition will be priced at $29.99/€29.99 in applicable regions, with additional editions also available.
