Developer Team Instant Defeat and publisher 11 bit studios have announced Volatiles, a fast-paced, top-down action roguelike where players construct their own battlefield while fighting to survive an invasion inside their minds.

Every run begins with a single tile, but the battlefield quickly expands as players fight alien enemies, collect experience, and level up. Each new tile introduces different possibilities, including weapons, upgrades, healing items, tools, and defensive options. Players decide how their battlefield develops, making tile placement an important part of building an effective strategy.
Experimentation is essential to survival, as different tile arrangements can create powerful combinations and unexpected synergies. Players must adapt their approach, learn from failed runs, and discover which strategies work best against the growing alien threat. When a run ends, they return to a water-filled tank with new knowledge that could help them survive the next attempt.

An Analog Sci-Fi Nightmare
Beyond its roguelike combat, Volatiles unfolds within an unsettling science-fiction setting. Players find themselves trapped in a covert laboratory with no memory of how they arrived. The people responsible insist that their situation is part of a treatment, but something is clearly wrong.
Inside their minds, visions of impossible battlefields and violent encounters begin to emerge. Each run takes players deeper into this analog sci-fi nightmare, where the boundaries between reality and imagined conflict become increasingly difficult to understand.

Meanwhile, strangers in the laboratory are watching from outside the nightmare. Whatever is growing inside the protagonist’s mind is learning, adapting, and potentially preparing to take control.
With its combination of fast-paced combat, customizable battlefields, and psychological science-fiction horror, Volatileschallenges players to build their own path to survival while uncovering the truth behind their confinement.
