Armative Studios has announced that Steel Aces, its free-to-play tank MMO focused on historically authentic armoured warfare, will launch on Steam and the developer’s own platform on October 30, 2026. Following a successful Open Play Weekend in September, the team is preparing for the full release with a focus on balanced combat and a polished player experience.
Held from September 25–28, the Open Play Weekend gave players access to all core features without any monetization enabled. Progress and rewards earned during the event will carry over to the full launch, allowing participants to continue their progress when the game officially releases.

According to Armative Studios CEO Michael Schmotz, the event provided valuable feedback and data to help the team identify areas for improvement. The developers are now focused on refining the experience and ensuring Steel Aces is ready for launch.

Skill-Based Tank Combat
Steel Aces puts player skill and tactical decision-making ahead of spending. Battles are designed around fair competition, with no premium ammunition, pay-to-win mechanics, or unfair random number generation. Every vehicle must be earned through gameplay, while monetization is limited to cosmetic items.

Combat also stays firmly on the ground, with no player-controlled artillery or aircraft. Instead, success depends on positioning, terrain, vehicle knowledge, and accurate shooting. The game’s ballistics simulation and component-based damage system allow individual vehicle parts to sustain damage rather than relying solely on a traditional health bar. Understanding enemy vehicles and placing shots carefully can make the difference between victory and defeat.

The game draws on more than 100 years of armoured warfare history, featuring over 150 historically authentic vehicles from the Interwar Period, World War II, and the early Cold War. Armative Studios has collaborated with military museums and partners with hands-on tank experience to help bring historical authenticity to its vehicles and combat systems.

Players can develop their skills and advance through 19 ranks, unlocking additional vehicles as they progress. The game also aims to provide fair, skill-matched battles for newcomers and experienced tank commanders alike.
