Welcome to spooky season, valued employee. It’s time to clock back in.
Giant Light Studios has released a newly expanded and polished demo for Mr. Magpie’s Harmless Card Game, its surreal corporate horror deckbuilder. Published by Behaviour Interactive and Gambit Digital, the game invites prospective employees back into Mr. Magpie’s increasingly questionable workplace ahead of Steam Next Fest, running October 19–26.

Mr. Magpie’s Harmless Card Game combines Minesweeper-inspired deduction, push-your-luck mechanics, and roguelike deckbuilding inside a corporate nightmare overseen by a smiling puppet who insists everything is perfectly harmless. Players must flip cards, identify dangerous JERRY cards, use hints, discover strange combinations, and build increasingly ridiculous multipliers while trying to hit their quota before closing time.

The latest demo is more than a simple update, expanding the preview with new narrative framing, gameplay systems, workplace exploration, and additional interactions with Mr. Magpie. The new SHARES system and revamped Strategy selection system give players more tools to approach each game, while improvements to the first-time user experience make it easier for new employees to get started.

For the first time, employees can also step away from the card table and explore Mr. Magpie’s office, providing an early look at the game’s Walkabout exploration. The updated build also introduces Simplified Chinese localization alongside additional polish and fixes.

Players will need to decide when to push their luck and when to cash out, all while searching for useful card synergies and attempting to make as much money as possible. Outside the card game, the twisted corporate workplace offers dark humor, unsettling secrets, and plenty of reasons to question exactly what Mr. Magpie means when he says everything is harmless.

Of course, Mr. Magpie is there to maintain the game’s eponymous harmlessness and ensure that no employees are accidentally murdered or injured enough to interfere with their key responsibilities.

Mr. Magpie’s Harmless Card Game is currently in development for PC via Steam, and the new demo is available now for free. The game will also be featured during Steam Next Fest from October 19–26.
