Canvas City Sparks A New Movement in Turn-Based Tactics

Disc 2 Games is shaking up the tactics genre with its debut title, Canvas City.

Forget knights, orcs, and military squads—Canvas City throws you into a vibrant, urban rebellion where movement is more than just positioning. Every rail grind, ramp jump, and trick mid-turn becomes part of your strategy. It’s a fresh new take on tactical RPGs, where style isn’t just flair—it’s your weapon.

Developed by Disc 2 Games, with support from the award-winning Black Salt Games (DREDGE), Canvas City is all about fighting oppression through art, music, and movement. Players lead a crew of skaters and performers, turning the city into their stage while taking down rival crews and uncovering the truth behind a cultural crackdown.

    Movement as Performance

Unlike traditional tactics games where characters simply move and attack, Canvas City turns the act of movement into a combo system. Rails, ramps, and vertical terrain let you chain tricks, rack up Style Points, and fuel powerful abilities. It’s about creativity as much as strategy—do you play it safe, or risk a flashy move for maximum payoff?

As Technical Director Kris Nicholson puts it:

“Movement isn’t just getting from one spot to another, it’s part of the plan.”

A City Alive With Music & Style

The world of Canvas City pulses with personality. Crews aren’t faceless armies—they’re artists, dancers, and musicians, each with their own tactics and soundtracks. Composer David Mason has crafted a score that shifts to match every opponent, from pounding percussion to energetic synths, making each encounter feel like its own performance.

Creative Director Johannes Otte highlights the team’s vision:

“We wanted to set this apart from the tactics games people might have played before by giving players a fresh new setting, replacing modern or fantasy armies with crews of artists, musicians, and dancers.”

Build Your Crew, Take Back the Streets

Players can recruit up to 12 unique characters throughout the campaign, each bringing distinct abilities, styles, and backstories. With more than 80 combat powers to master—ranging from buffs and debuffs to zone control and high-mobility tricks—you’ll have endless ways to shape your strategy.

Bonus objectives let you unlock upgrades and new gear, while revisiting levels allows players to refine tactics and chase higher stage rankings. Between missions, the crew gathers in the Garage—your hub for loadouts, story beats, and pre-mission planning.
