Shadowlight and publisher Phoenix Games have announced that Kill the Shadow will launch for PC via Steam on August 5, 2026. Blending detective gameplay, RPG progression, and supernatural investigation mechanics, the Chinese cyber-noir adventure places players in the heart of Dark Tide City, where every crime reveals another layer of a conspiracy hidden beneath the city’s troubled history.

Players assume the role of Lucas, a former detective burdened by a mysterious supernatural entity known as the Shadow. Rather than altering history, the Shadow allows Lucas to reconstruct the final moments of the deceased, letting players observe crime scenes exactly as they unfolded. By studying these reconstructions, gathering evidence, and connecting clues, players will uncover long-buried secrets while navigating a web of deception that spans more than a decade.

The investigation begins with the puzzling death of Teddy, the powerful companion of Captain Theo. What appears to be a single unexplained case soon expands into a far-reaching conspiracy involving disappearances, forgotten tragedies, and powerful figures pulling the strings from the shadows. As Lucas investigates locations across Dark Tide City, from industrial factories and flood-ravaged docks to ancient temples and towering city walls, each mystery reveals another piece of the city’s fractured past.

Beyond solving crimes, players can develop Lucas through RPG progression that supports multiple playstyles. Whether relying on charisma to persuade suspects, intelligence to connect intricate evidence, or brute force when negotiations fail, every decision influences the outcome of investigations and the direction of the story. Moral choices also play a major role, allowing players to judge, forgive, or condemn those responsible, leading to multiple possible endings.

Visually, Kill the Shadow combines detailed 3D environments with expressive 2D pixel art characters, creating a distinctive Chinese cyber-noir aesthetic that blends retro-inspired visuals with modern design. Along the way, players will encounter a memorable cast of citizens, each harboring personal secrets, motivations, and hidden connections to the city’s darkest mysteries.
