Panache Digital Games, the studio behind Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, has officially revealed 1666: Amsterdam, a dark third-person action-adventure game led by creative director Patrice Désilets. The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest alongside the debut of the game’s first trailer.
Players won’t have to wait long to experience the mysterious new universe. A free playable prologue is available now on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, offering an approximately 30-minute introduction to the game’s characters, setting, and overarching mystery.

Set in Amsterdam during the year 1666, the game presents a world where powerful entities known as the Originals have secretly lived among humanity for centuries. Blessed with extraordinary power and long lifespans, these beings have shaped the world from the shadows. However, their influence comes with a debt that must eventually be paid.

At the center of the story is Noa Brooklyn, a young woman born into the role of the Collector and raised by the Zaindaris to fulfill a destiny she never chose. Alongside her is Aaron, a man pulled from 1999 who now experiences the world through the eyes of a cat. Together, they become part of a mystery that spans centuries and multiple timelines.

The free prologue serves as an introduction to the larger narrative, allowing players to witness Noa’s Commencement as she begins to understand her purpose and the responsibilities tied to her role as the Collector. Players will also make an early decision that determines which companion accompanies Noa on her journey.

One of the game’s most intriguing features is its multi-era storytelling. The narrative unfolds across three distinct timelines—1666, 1999, and the present day—with each period revealing clues connected to a much larger mystery. As players progress, they will uncover a hidden world shaped by centuries of unseen influence and secret power struggles.

Prologue Features
- Experience a mystery that spans three different timelines.
- Choose a companion who will accompany Noa on her journey.
- Witness Noa’s Commencement and her transformation into the Collector.
- Explore a universe filled with hidden forces and centuries-old secrets.

Patrice Désilets shared his excitement about finally revealing the project after years of development.
According to Désilets, the Montreal-based team of nearly 70 developers has spent the last six years focusing entirely on creating the game itself rather than producing pre-rendered demonstrations or marketing-focused vertical slices. The newly released prologue represents the first opportunity for players to experience the world firsthand and serves as an introduction to the larger adventure still to come.

1666: Amsterdam is scheduled to enter Early Access on PC in 2026, with console versions planned for a later release. Players interested in learning more can wishlist both the prologue and the full game through their respective store pages.
