Developer Lumina Studio has revealed new details about Brightfall, a cooperative survival horror adventure launching on Steam in 2026, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 versions planned to follow.
Set on a mysterious island erased from the maps of England, Brightfall pits one to four players against a supernatural force that corrupts everything it touches. As darkness spreads across the land, forests twist into unnatural shapes, wildlife transforms into deadly creatures, and the environment itself becomes increasingly hostile. Survival depends on staying close to the light.

At the heart of the experience is the mysterious Brightheart crystal, which creates fragile safe zones that keep corruption at bay while protecting players from losing their sanity. Venturing beyond its glow is essential for gathering resources and uncovering the island’s secrets, but every expedition becomes a dangerous gamble as the protective light slowly fades.

Players will scavenge for materials, craft weapons and equipment, and gradually expand their base of operations by reclaiming ancient Celtic stone circles from the darkness. Each restored circle increases the Brightheart’s reach, creating new safe havens that allow explorers to venture farther into dangerous biomes filled with powerful enemies, forgotten ruins, elite monsters, and challenging boss encounters.

The darkness is more than a physical threat. Spending too much time outside the protection of the Brightheart causes madness to set in, potentially transforming teammates into corrupted versions of themselves. Every action also consumes valuable energy needed to sustain the camp, forcing players to carefully balance exploration, resource management, and survival.

One of the game’s standout mechanics is its Living Darkness System, where light serves as both protection and a strategic tool for reclaiming territory. The world and its inhabitants dynamically react to changing light levels, requiring players to constantly adapt their tactics as conditions shift throughout each expedition.

Drawing inspiration from Celtic mythology and the eerie atmosphere of post-plague 17th-century England, Brightfallaims to deliver a fresh take on the survival crafting genre with a strong emphasis on cooperative play, environmental storytelling, and psychological horror.
