Get ready, gamers! The Astronauts have just announced that their dark fantasy RPG shooter, Witchfire, is coming to Steam Early Access in 2024. If you’re eager to jump in, you can already wishlist the game on its new “Coming Soon” page to get notified the moment it drops. For those who can’t wait, Witchfire is already available on the Epic Games Store, where the massive *Wailing Tower* update has just landed, bringing with it a brand-new map, fresh enemies, loot, gear, and more.
The *Wailing Tower* update is a game-changer, introducing elements of cosmic horror into the world of Witchfire. This is the first new raid map since the game launched, and it’s packed with challenges that will test even the most seasoned players. New Arcana power-ups now include “prophecies” and “curses,” offering both benefits and hurdles to overcome. Plus, you can summon the souls of fallen preyers to assist in your battle against the terrifying new foes. Alongside these gameplay enhancements, the update also adds incredible new music tracks from acclaimed composers like Marcin Przybyłowicz (*The Witcher*, *Cyberpunk 2077*), P.T. Adamczyk (Gwent, Cyberpunk 2077), and Paweł Błaszczak (Dead Island, Dying Light). Full patch notes are available on The Astronauts’ official website and Discord.
So, what is Witchfire all about? This single-player, dark fantasy RPG FPS puts you in the shoes of a wicked sinner turned witch hunter, embarking on a final mission to earn salvation. Developed by the creative minds behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm, Witchfire combines souls-like, extraction, and roguelite gameplay to deliver a brutally challenging but immensely satisfying experience, where skill and strategy are key to survival.
Here’s what you can expect in Witchfire:
- Overcome the Witch and her Minions: Skill and knowledge are your best weapons against the Witch of the Black Sea and her witchfire-fueled army. Should you fall in battle, you have one shot to reclaim what you lost—fail, and you’ll need to adapt your strategy for a different challenge.
- Go on Expeditions: Choose your battlegrounds and explore vast, immersive biomes as you battle the Witch’s forces. Each encounter boosts your strength and arsenal, thanks to the game’s roguelite system, Arcana, which offers countless ways to build your Preyer and dominate the battlefield.
- Become a Deadly Preyer: Only the most wicked individuals can become Preyers—undead assassins empowered by Witchfire. At the Hermitory, your base of operations, you can select from a wide range of unique weapons, spells, and artifacts to customize your Preyer.
- Take the Risk: On each expedition, you can either extract your loot or, if you’re feeling daring, challenge the Witch’s Familiar to unlock new areas brimming with powerful items and upgrades.
- Uncover the Mystery of the Lost Cargo: Piece together a forbidden tale from the past that holds the key to the future.
Witchfire first launched into Early Access on the Epic Games Store in September 2023 and has seen significant updates since. The Steam Early Access phase will bring even more content, including new areas, enemies, weapons, and tools of destruction. By joining the hunt, you can help shape the game into its final form!
“Thank you to our early adopters! To everyone who’s been with us since the start of Early Access: we couldn’t have done this without you. Your feedback in our official Discord and beyond has been crucial to our development process,” said Adrian Chmielarz, co-founder and creative director at The Astronauts.
