Nightdive Studios Unveils Fresh Horrors in The Thing: Remastered – A Chilling Throwback for Modern Gamers!

In celebration of the 22nd anniversary of the cult-classic horror game The Thing, Nightdive Studios is turning up the terror with a sneak peek at The Thing: Remastered. This highly anticipated revival is set to bring the alien horror back to life on both PC and consoles later this year.

Originally released in 2002, The Thing was a third-person survival horror shooter inspired by John Carpenter’s legendary 1982 film. Now, thanks to Nightdive’s proprietary KEX Engine, The Thing: Remastered is getting a full makeover, delivering the same spine-chilling experience but with enhanced visuals and performance. Expect up to 4K resolution at 120FPS, along with revamped character models, textures, and animations. The updated lighting and atmospheric effects will make the horrors of *The Thing* feel more real than ever before, ensuring both nostalgia and fear for veteran players and newcomers alike.

In The Thing: Remastered, players step into the boots of Captain J.F. Blake, leading a Special Forces rescue team into the icy abyss of U.S. Outpost #31. The mission? To uncover the fate of the research team wiped out by a shape-shifting alien entity in the original movie. As the freezing cold and growing paranoia grip your squad, it’s up to you to keep your team together—both physically and mentally. Trust is your most valuable resource, but in this game, even that could be a double-edged sword.

Key Features of The Thing: Remastered:

  • Return to U.S. Outpost #31: Continue the chilling story of *The Thing*, facing off against iconic creatures, from scuttling head-spiders to monstrous, multi-tentacled bosses.
  • Squad-Based Survival: Command a team of up to four NPCs, choosing from Soldier, Medic, and Engineer classes, as you navigate through 11 terrifying levels.
  • Paranoia-Inducing Gameplay**: With the shape-shifting alien hiding in plain sight, trust is scarce. Keep an eye on your squad—one wrong move could be your last.
  • Fear Management: Balance fear and trust among your squad to avoid a complete meltdown—or worse, betrayal.
  • Modernized Horror: Enhanced models, textures, and animations, along with advanced lighting effects, bring the terror to life like never before.
  • Next-Gen Graphics: Experience the horror in up to 4K at 120FPS on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Achievement Hunters: Trophies and achievements are available across Windows PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.

For those looking to dive deeper into the making of this remaster, Nightdive Studios’ Deep Dive podcast is a must-listen. Featuring interviews with developers from both the original and remastered versions, including insights from Mark Atkinson (director and programmer) and Ron Ashtiani (art director), it’s a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes content.
