The wait is over! Frost Giant Studios has officially launched Stormgate™*, their highly anticipated real-time strategy game, into Early Access on Steam. Now available for free on Windows PC and through NVIDIA’s GeForce Now cloud gaming platform, Stormgate invites players to experience intense 1v1 battles, 3-player co-op missions, and custom 2v2 team games. Plus, you’ll get an early taste of the game’s Campaign missions as the development team continues to shape this ambitious title.
A New Sci-Fi RTS Adventure
Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth within a science-fantasy universe, Stormgate immerses players in a world still reeling from a demonic invasion. You can command one of three unique factions, each offering distinct gameplay mechanics, units, and strategies:
- The Vanguard: A resilient human defense force featuring rocket-powered mechs and loyal robot dogs.
- The Infernal Host: A demonic army filled with brutal warriors and pestilence-spewing dragons.
- The Celestial Armada: A mysterious faction of angelic Biosynths and their deadly Machine Legion.
Whether you’re defending humanity or leading an invasion, epic battles await in this new RTS experience.
Early Access: The Beginning of a Community-Driven Journey

Frost Giant Studios is committed to evolving Stormgate with community feedback. The recent developer blog, “The Road Ahead for Campaign,” outlines specific improvements the team is focusing on, including balance updates, enhanced visuals, new audio features, and the introduction of a competitive 3v3 team mode. Early Access is expected to last at least a year, during which time players can expect continuous updates and new content.
Innovative Features and Next-Gen Tech
Stormgate brings classic RTS gameplay into the modern era with innovations designed to make the genre more accessible and enjoyable. The “BuddyBot” assists co-op players of all skill levels, helping with economy and base-building tasks to reduce stress and allow everyone to experience the thrill of RTS gameplay. Automated control groups and a quick macro panel further simplify inputs, making the game more approachable without sacrificing depth.
Under the hood, Stormgate is powered by SnowPlay, Frost Giant’s custom technology that transforms Unreal Engine 5 into the most advanced RTS engine to date. With 64 tick-rate servers (compared to the typical 8), Stormgate ensures smooth, responsive gameplay. The game also introduces rollback, minimizing lag-related stuttering—a first for large-scale RTS games. Frost Giant’s distributed server infrastructure, powered by Hathora, provides global matchmaking, ensuring fair and competitive play regardless of geographic location.
A Soundtrack to Remember
Stormgate features an epic soundtrack composed by industry legends Frank Klepaki (Command & Conquer), Tracy W. Bush (StarCraft, World of Warcraft), David Luis Ortega (Blizzard Entertainment, Ubisoft), and Nga Weng Chio, who was nominated for a WSA Game Music Award for her work on the Celestial faction music.
Free to Play, Done Right
Stormgate is free to play, with optional in-game purchases that support the development team. Players can unlock full progression for Heroes, purchase additional Campaign chapters, and adopt in-game pets. Importantly, Stormgate avoids pay-to-win mechanics, ensuring that the competitive experience remains fair and balanced.
