There are no stations left and no destination in sight. On October 16, the last human train will begin its journey as Shoreline Games and developer David Konecny launch Dreadline Express on PC via Steam.

Revealed during Insider Gaming’s 28 Games Later horror showcase, Dreadline Express is a first-person psychological horror adventure set aboard a steam train carrying the remnants of humanity across a scorched and unfamiliar Earth. Lovecraftian themes add to the unsettling atmosphere as players explore the train and uncover the mysteries surrounding its passengers.

Rather than following a traditional objective marker from one task to the next, Dreadline Express encourages players to explore, pay attention, and solve its mysteries for themselves. Each carriage contains new clues, while the train’s colorful but ominous passengers all have their own histories, motivations, and secrets.

The game uses a card-based narrative system to track discoveries, encounters, and achievements. As players collect cards and add them to an evolving album, they can identify connections, develop new plans, and find ways to access previously unreachable areas. Understanding the train, its passengers, and the world beyond it gradually opens up more possibilities for progressing through the story.

Players can also decide how they approach the challenges they encounter. Alliances, conflicts, careful deduction, tactics, and direct confrontation can all play a role, with different solutions available depending on the choices made throughout the journey.

“Dreadline Express is about giving players the freedom to be curious,” said David Konecny, developer of Dreadline Express. “I wanted to make a horror game where making it through comes from paying attention, making connections, and understanding the people and places around you, rather than simply following a trail of objectives.”

As players fill out their album, each new discovery brings them closer to understanding the story behind the final human train and the fate of the people aboard it. Their choices, relationships, and discoveries will ultimately shape how the journey unfolds.

Dreadline Express launches on PC via Steam on October 16, 2026.
