Developer 100Hr Games has officially launched Artificial Extinction 2 on Steam, bringing its ambitious blend of tower defense, real-time strategy, and first-person shooter gameplay to players after more than five years of development.
Created by a solo developer, Artificial Extinction 2 puts players in command of a futuristic military base under siege from relentless waves of adaptive AI machines. As players fight to survive, they must also race against time to decrypt mysterious alien technology before extraction arrives. The game’s standout feature is its seamless transition between strategic oversight and frontline action, allowing players to switch instantly between top-down RTS command and first-person combat whenever they choose.

This hybrid approach gives players the freedom to tackle battles however they prefer. Those who enjoy strategic planning can focus on constructing defensive networks, managing resources, researching new technologies, and coordinating vehicles and drones. Players looking for a more action-oriented experience can jump directly into the battlefield, fighting alongside their forces in first-person combat as massive enemy assaults unfold around them.

Large-scale battles are a core focus of the experience, with swarms of AI-controlled enemies attacking player defenses across sprawling maps. Artillery strikes, collapsing fortifications, explosions, and desperate last-second victories are designed to create cinematic encounters that evolve naturally through player decisions and battlefield conditions. According to the developer, these emergent battle stories are intended to generate memorable moments that feel different with every playthrough.

The game features ten handcrafted campaign levels, each offering unique terrain layouts and tactical scenarios. Replayability remains a major focus, with changing enemy attack patterns, resource placements, and survival conditions encouraging players to revisit missions and experiment with different strategies. Successful missions unlock additional ways to play, further expanding the game’s long-term appeal.

Beyond the campaign, players can challenge themselves in Endless Mode while utilizing various gameplay modifiers that alter the battlefield experience. Steam leaderboards are also included for players looking to compete for high scores and survival records. The game additionally supports more than 11 languages, making it accessible to a broad international audience.

With its combination of tower defense mechanics, strategic base management, and first-person action, Artificial Extinction 2 offers a unique take on large-scale sci-fi warfare. Whether players prefer careful planning from above or jumping directly into the fight, the game aims to provide a flexible and replayable experience built around intense battles against overwhelming odds.
