Demon Lord: Just A Block, the upcoming action roguelite from developer YuWave and publisher Skystone Games, is set to arrive on PC via Steam on April 29, 2026. Players can already get a taste of the game through a demo currently available on Steam, which holds an impressive 98% positive review rating.

After being overthrown by the Black Dragon Queen Heyla, the once-powerful ruler sets out to reclaim the throne, reunite with old allies, and uncover the truth behind who sealed them away in the first place.

The game’s combat revolves around a clever mechanic: the world only moves when the player does. This allows for a more thoughtful, strategic pace where players can carefully plan each step—or move quickly and rely on reflexes to dodge and parry attacks during fast-paced encounters. Simply colliding with enemies triggers attacks, while visual cues help players anticipate incoming threats.

Battles unfold across grid-based arenas filled with slimes, carnivorous plants, giant spiders, and other dangerous foes. Players can experiment with a wide range of builds by mixing and matching 14 weapons, 10 archetypes, and more than 200 abilities. From firing the Eyeball Blaster to swinging the Hero’s Greatsword, summoning bats, or scattering bombs across the battlefield, the system offers thousands of possible combinations.

Boss encounters also bring their own twists, introducing mechanics inspired by classic arcade puzzlers. Combined with procedurally generated levels and branching outcomes, each run offers new surprises—from unpredictable item drops to unexpected encounters within the Demon Lord’s castle.

According to solo developer YuWave, the project has been a personal challenge. “One developer. One computer. One game. One year,” he said when discussing the game’s development. Handling the art, coding, and design himself, YuWave aimed to turn an unusual idea into a fully realized adventure.
