Shrine’s Legacy, a heartfelt SNES-inspired JRPG from Positive Concept Games and indie.io, officially launches on Steam October 7th, 2025.

Set in the magical world of Ardemia, Shrine’s Legacy blends nostalgic charm with modern storytelling, offering both single-player and co-op gameplay. At its heart is a tale of family, sacrifice, and the heavy price of saving the world.

The story kicks off as the Dark Lord Aklor breaks free from his centuries-long banishment, sending his armies to ravage the land. Players follow Rio — heir to the legendary Sword of the Shrine and descendant of the hero who once sealed Aklor away — as his peaceful life is shattered by the oncoming darkness. Rescued by Reima, a determined mage searching for the Sword, the two must band together and unite the eight elemental powers scattered across Ardemia if they hope to stand a chance against the Dark Lord.

Of course, victory won’t come without sacrifice. Along the way, Rio and Reima face grief, loss, and hard truths as they struggle to protect a world slipping into chaos.

Gameplay stays true to classic JRPG roots while mixing in real-time action. Rio brings melee combat that rewards precise timing and positioning, while Reima wields a vast arsenal of spells. You can freely swap between them when playing solo, or team up with a friend in couch co-op to take on Aklor’s forces together on a single screen.

    Players can look forward to:

    • Exploring expansive dungeons filled with treasure, puzzles, and danger.

    • Progression systems that unlock new abilities, spells, and upgrades.

    • A richly woven story full of memorable characters and emotional twists.

    • Smooth pixel art that captures the look and feel of SNES classics.

With its mix of nostalgic presentation, emotional storytelling, and cooperative gameplay, Shrine’s Legacy is shaping up to be more than just a retro throwback — it’s a modern love letter to the JRPGs that defined a generation.
