Metis Creative has unveiled WANE, an occult turn-based RPG set within an industrial noir world. Published in partnership with Shoreline Games, the game follows Declan Wayne, a fading archaeologist whose deteriorating sense of self has transformed his mind into a haunted labyrinth.
As Declan turns inward, players will explore Ravelle, a realm constructed from his fractured memories. The world is shaped by trauma, obsession, regret and the moments that have defined his life, creating a constantly shifting environment filled with dangers and secrets.
Players will recruit adventurers and assemble a three-person party before venturing into Ravelle’s three distinct biomes. Grid-based tactical combat emphasizes positioning, cover and line of sight, while percentage-based attacks add an element of uncertainty to encounters. Expeditions can include random encounters and challenging boss battles, with attrition making each journey a test of how carefully players manage their resources.
Between expeditions, Declan can return to his antiquarian shop to appraise and auction relics recovered from the realm. The money earned can be used to upgrade the shop’s facilities and help fund future expeditions.
The roguelike structure also allows progress to carry between runs. New synergies, shortcuts and permanent buffs gradually become available, while repeated journeys deeper into Ravelle reveal more of Declan’s story and the characters surrounding him.
Ravelle’s three biomes include the Ravellian Sanatorium, the Palace of Arvanshah and the Death Pilgrimage to Erabel. Each location is connected to Ravelle’s history and Declan’s fractured memories, giving players another piece of his past to uncover as they progress.
The story is designed to unfold through repetition, with each expedition revealing additional details about Declan and the people connected to his journey. As players continue returning to Ravelle, the changing labyrinth becomes both the setting for the adventure and a reflection of Declan’s deteriorating memories.
WANE is currently in development for PC. A release date and additional details will be announced at a later date.
