How much can a small independent team accomplish with a fraction of the budget typically associated with cinematic action-adventure games? That’s the challenge behind Firva: Strings of Fate (Part 1), a story-driven dark fantasy adventure currently in development for PC.

Developed by a team of just five full-time members, Firva has been in production for two years with a budget of less than $200,000. The team is combining exploration, environmental puzzles, platforming, timing-based melee combat, handcrafted set pieces, and approximately 40 minutes of cinematic sequences in an effort to deliver a larger-scale adventure without the resources of a traditional AA production.
The story follows Firva, who has spent 20 years seeking revenge after her parents were murdered. Her long-awaited confrontation with Ratiar the Butcher finally arrives, but what she discovers on his body transforms her quest for vengeance into something far more complicated.

Firva finds one of the legendary Strings of Fate, a mythical object said to have the power to bring the dead back to life. To use its power, she needs the antler of Goldie, the deer she grew up with and who now lives peacefully in the Silent Forest.
When Firva returns to the forest, she discovers that Rajoo is also searching for the String of Fate and has already sent his hunters to claim it. Firva must reach Goldie before the hunters while finding a way to use the String of Fate to bring her parents back.

Her journey ultimately raises a more personal question. If Firva gains the power to reverse death, will bringing her parents back still be what she wants, or will the path she takes change what she truly wishes for?

Rather than attempting to match larger productions through sheer scale, the team behind Firva is focusing its limited resources on the elements players directly experience. The game features directed camera work, handcrafted sequences, and story-driven set pieces designed to give its adventure a cinematic presentation.

Exploration combines atmospheric environments with traversal challenges, environmental puzzles, hidden paths, and areas designed around discovery. Combat uses a timing-based system built around dodging, parrying, and positioning, with encounters tied to Firva’s journey.
At the center of the adventure is a female-led dark fantasy story that begins with a deeply personal goal rather than a world-saving mission. Firva’s motivation is rooted in the loss of her parents and the possibility of bringing them back.

A new trailer and playable demo for Firva: Strings of Fate are scheduled to debut in October ahead of Steam Next Fest, giving players their first opportunity to experience the game for themselves.
