Arc Games and Magic Design Studios, the team behind Have a Nice Death and Unruly Heroes, have announced NAUTUS, a quirky island adventure that combines cozy surface-level exploration with dangerous underwater expeditions. The game is scheduled to launch in Steam Early Access in 2027, with a specific release date to be announced later.

Players arrive at the remote N.A.U.T.U.S. research station after receiving a disturbing radio message from their uncle, Bernard Torpedo. Things quickly become strange when they discover that the island’s scientists have lost their memories and developed a debilitating fear of the ocean. With no one else willing to explore the depths, players must take control of an upgradable submarine, investigate the surrounding waters, and uncover the mystery behind their uncle’s disappearance.

The underwater world features coral reefs, sunken pirate ships, unexplored trenches, and bizarre mutant marine life. Players can battle and capture strange creatures while searching for mysterious artifact stones and gathering materials needed to upgrade their submarine, equipment, weapons, and crafting capabilities.

The adventure isn’t limited to the ocean floor. Returning to the surface provides a chance to relax, meet the island’s eccentric inhabitants, complete quests, manage resources, and expand a customizable tropical outpost. New crafting stations and infrastructure can be built to turn the secluded island into a thriving base for future expeditions.

NAUTUS features a dual-layer gameplay loop that shifts between dangerous underwater exploration and a more relaxed surface experience. Progress made in one area directly supports the other, giving players plenty of reasons to return to the depths and then head back home.

The story also revolves around the mysterious disappearance of Bernard Torpedo. Players will search for ancient relics, hidden clues, and secrets buried beneath the ocean as they attempt to restore the memories of the island’s inhabitants and discover what happened to their missing uncle.

NAUTUS can be played solo or with up to three other players through four-player online co-op. Players can explore the ocean, gather resources, upgrade their submarines, and develop the island together.

NAUTUS is coming to Steam Early Access in 2027 and is available to wishlist now.
