NACON and Midgar Studio have released a playable demo for Edge of Memories as part of Steam Next Fest, giving players an opportunity to experience the upcoming action JRPG ahead of its full launch this fall. Available now on Steam, the demo will remain accessible throughout the festival and offers nearly two hours of gameplay from the opening chapter of the adventure.
The demo introduces players to the world of Avaris and the game’s central storyline, which follows a mission to track down nomads who have been abducted by terrifying Corrosion monsters. Along the way, players will encounter key story elements, explore the game’s early environments, and gain their first look at the challenges that await in the full release.
Players will also meet the first companion character, Ysoris, while learning the fundamentals of the combat system. The demo showcases the game’s action-focused battles, including the first unlockable combo abilities and an encounter with the game’s first major boss. These early gameplay segments provide a taste of the fast-paced combat and character progression systems that define the experience.
Voice acting is available in both Japanese and English. Eline is voiced by Yuki Kyoka, known for her work in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and SaGa: Emerald Beyond, while the English performance is provided by Allegra Clark, whose credits include The Legend of Heroes and Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Ysoris is voiced by Kousuke Toriumi in Japanese and Edwyn Tiong in English, bringing additional talent from across the RPG genre to the cast.
Developed by Montpellier-based Midgar Studio, Edge of Memories blends traditional JRPG storytelling with action RPG gameplay and French animation influences. Designed to appeal to both longtime JRPG fans and newcomers, the game features a richly detailed world brought to life through vibrant art direction and a dynamic soundtrack.
The music is led by composer Cédric Menendez, whose previous work includes Edge of Eternity, and features vocal performances from Emi Evans, best known for her contributions to the NieR series, as well as Marion Schneider. The development team has also collaborated with several notable creators from the JRPG industry, including character designer Raita Kazama, writer Sawako Natori, and composers Mariam Abounnasr and Yasunori Mitsuda, whose legendary credits include Chrono Trigger and Xenogears.
With its combination of action-oriented combat, expansive worldbuilding, and an impressive lineup of genre veterans, Edge of Memories is shaping up to be one of the more ambitious JRPG releases of 2026. Edge of Memories is scheduled to launch in Fall 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
