Independent studio Astronaut Diaries is preparing to unleash Denari, a narrative-driven action game that blends fast-paced hack-and-slash combat with powerful telekinetic abilities. Currently in development for PC, the game places players in the role of Taiu, a young orphan whose peaceful life is shattered when a ruthless empire launches an invasion of his homeland.

Following the attack, Taiu is chosen by the goddess Qira and granted extraordinary telekinetic powers. Armed with these newfound abilities, he must rise from humble beginnings and become the protector his people desperately need. The journey will see players battle overwhelming odds while uncovering a story centered on courage, sacrifice, and the defense of tradition against conquest.

Combat in Denari goes beyond traditional hack-and-slash mechanics by allowing players to manipulate the battlefield with telekinesis. Projectiles can be intercepted and hurled back at enemies, devastating telekinetic blasts can send opponents flying, and players can combine abilities with melee attacks to create powerful combat sequences. The result is a combat system that encourages creativity while maintaining the speed and intensity of an action-focused adventure.

The game’s world is brought to life through vibrant toon-inspired visuals created by veteran artist Tamihana Greaves, while award-winning composer David Mason provides the soundtrack. Together, the artistic direction and music aim to create a memorable fantasy setting filled with colorful characters, dangerous enemies, and dramatic encounters.

Standing in Taiu’s path is the fearsome Denari army, a force empowered by advanced weaponry and dark magic. From monstrous brutes to powerful spellcasters, the invading army presents a constant threat throughout the adventure. Leading the assault is a mysterious figure known as The Summoner, a commander capable of teleporting soldiers across vast distances, allowing the empire to rapidly expand its conquest. Taiu’s ultimate goal will be to confront this powerful enemy and put an end to the invasion once and for all.

Developed by New Zealand-based studio Astronaut Diaries, Denari marks the team’s debut title and has attracted additional attention through a publishing partnership with Ninja Kiwi. The game is currently listed as “Coming Soon” on Steam, where players can wishlist the title ahead of its eventual release.
