Developer Garland, working alongside publishing platform indie.io, has launched a refreshed playable demo for CoreRunner, giving players a new opportunity to dive into the game’s lightning-fast blend of skating, shooting, and melee combat. The updated demo is available now on Steam and offers a hands-on look at the title’s unique movement system and kinetic arcade-style action.

CoreRunner drops players into a digital arena located deep inside a mysterious Core, where survival depends on speed, precision, and momentum. Players skate through a spherical battlefield at breakneck pace, weaving between enemies and hazards while combining gunfire, sword strikes, and glowing light trails to take down threats. The combat experience pulls inspiration from the neon spectacle of classic light-trail duels and the high-energy chaos of skating shooters, creating a fast-moving fight where positioning and timing are just as important as firepower.

One of the game’s defining features is its distinctive movement system. While the action may initially appear similar to an on-rails shooter, players actually have complete freedom to move throughout the enclosed spherical arena. As momentum carries players around the environment, enemies naturally loop back into view, keeping the action constant and unpredictable.

Combat goes beyond traditional shooting as well. In addition to guns and melee attacks, players leave behind a glowing trail as they skate through the arena. This trail acts as a weapon of its own, damaging enemies that attempt to follow too closely and adding another layer of strategy to high-speed maneuvers.

The roughly 25-minute demo introduces players to CoreRunner’s core gameplay loop, built around chaining together movement and attacks while experimenting with different abilities. Players will encounter tools such as speed and shield boosters, improved dash control, and new trail grinding mechanics that expand traversal options and combat possibilities.

Players interested in testing their reflexes can download the CoreRunner demo on Steam now and experience the game’s evolving mechanics firsthand as they attempt to carve a path out of the Core.
