Fans of fast-paced action and gritty anime aesthetics have something new to keep an eye on. Belgian solo developer DascuMaru has officially revealed RUIN: Beast City, a boss-rush action game dripping with violent anime influence and unmistakable ‘80s flair. Better yet, players don’t have to wait long to see it in motion — a playable demo is available now ahead of Steam Next Fest.
In RUIN: Beast City, players step into the role of Adama, a lone assassin tasked with hunting down a secretive cult of immortals known as the Lunatics. Armed with a katana and a revolver loaded with silver bullets, Adama must carve a path through brutal boss encounters while unraveling a conspiracy that threatens the very fabric of the world — and confronting his own ties to the shadowy organization.

The newly released demo offers a taste of the carnage with two challenging boss fights designed to push your reflexes and combat skills. It will be featured during Steam Next Fest from February 23 through March 2, but players can continue downloading it even after the event wraps up.

Drawing heavy inspiration from classic ‘80s anime — including the works of Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and Ninja Scroll director Yoshiaki Kawajiri — RUIN: Beast City blends stylized violence with a moody atmosphere. There are also hints of Suda51’s signature offbeat energy, calling to mind cult favorites like No More Heroes and Killer7.

Set among the decaying remnants of a once-great metropolis, the game leans into its dark tone with a cel-shaded visual style and an oppressive ambiance. At its core is a personal story about confronting the past, layered with a looming threat involving the summoning of a primordial god.
