If you’ve ever been swooped by a magpie, you already know the fear. Now imagine being the one delivering it. Monster Shop Games, in partnership with indie.io, has announced that Pie in the Sky—a retro-inspired arcade adventure where you play as Australia’s most notorious bird—launches on February 2, 2026, exclusively on PC via Steam.

In Pie in the Sky, players become a magpie with two simple goals: feed your endlessly hungry chicks and make human life as miserable as possible. That means dive-bombing pedestrians, knocking cyclists off balance, tipping over trash bins, stealing food, and unleashing aerial chaos across the land. Once you’ve eaten your fill, it’s time for bombing runs—using whatever objects you can get your talons on to remind humanity who really owns the skies.

The game features six distinct levels inspired by iconic Australian locations, ranging from quiet suburbs to sun-soaked beaches and bustling city centers. Each area is packed with secrets, collectibles, and increasingly unhinged objectives that push players to master movement, timing, and pure avian menace.

While the magpie may already be nature’s perfect weapon, Pie in the Sky lets players fine-tune their feathered terror. Upgrade movement speed, swoop frequency, and digestion to enable longer, more devastating combo chains. Prefer style over stats? Customize your bird’s appearance with different feather colors—or embrace peak chaos with a pirate hat, because yes, that’s an option.

True to its retro roots, Pie in the Sky channels a PlayStation 2–era aesthetic and an old-school design philosophy. There are no DLC gates, no loot boxes, and no pay-to-win mechanics—everything is unlocked simply by playing and spreading fear the old-fashioned way.

Developer Mark Smith, a solo creator from Perth, describes the game as “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in the sky,” swapping skate tricks for swoops, food theft, and precision flight through gaps to keep combos alive. Inspired by real-life magpie encounters, the project turns a uniquely Australian menace into a surprisingly joyful power fantasy.

If you’re ready to flip the food chain and remind humanity why magpies are truly terrifying, Pie in the Sky lands on February 2, 2026, on Steam.
