Grab your helmets and hit the track—Go Kart Island, the debut game from Grumpy Pizza Games, is officially out now on Steam, complete with a 20% launch discount off its regular price of $9.99 / €8.99 / £7.99. Players can also jump into a free demo featuring the first five story events before buying.

Go Kart Island takes the familiar thrills of kart racing and blends them with open-world exploration and a lighthearted story mode. You’ll follow Lachlan the highland cow, a determined racer chasing his dream of becoming Go Kart Champion. But there’s a catch—the Island’s shady Mayor demands a hefty 1,000-coin entry fee to join the BIG RACE. Time to drift, boost, and collect your way to victory!

From Dream to Reality
Go Kart Island is the creation of solo developer Ewan McKenzie, who turned his lifelong love of Mario Kart into his first solo project. After working in the games industry since 2009, McKenzie took a leap of faith in 2024 to develop the game full time.
“I was obsessed with Mario Kart as a kid, and I’ve always wanted to make my own kart racer,” said McKenzie. “I drew inspiration from A Short Hike, Diddy Kong Racing, and Forza Horizon to create something fresh—an open-world, story-driven kart game. It feels surreal to finally release it, but I’m thrilled to get it into players’ hands.”
If you’ve ever wondered what Mario Kart might look like with the freedom of Forza Horizon, this is your chance to find out.

Go Kart Island is available now on Steam, with the Nintendo Switch version—published by Ant Workshop—coming January 9, 2026.
