Grab your friends… wait, is that really your friend? What was that sound? And where the hell are you anyway? Escape the Backrooms, one of the most popular co-op horror games inspired by Backrooms lore, is gearing up for its full 1.0 release on Steam.

Escape the Backrooms is a 1–4 player co-op horror exploration game where players traverse 30+ creepy, liminal environments while evading terrifying entities. Work together, solve puzzles, and find your way out—but remember: survival is never guaranteed.

In Escape the Backrooms, up to four players work together to explore the seemingly endless maze of eerie liminal spaces, impossible hotels, and eerily calm pools. The goal? Find an exit while staying one step ahead of the lurking entities that call the Backrooms home. Proximity voice chat keeps you connected to your team—but it also means the monsters can hear you. So, try not to scream.

The 1.0 launch packs in a massive amount of new content, including four additional levels:

    • Overgrowth – Discover the origins of the Bacteria.

    • Level 974 – Get uncomfortably close with Kitty.

    • Bunker – Expand your M.E.G. research.

    • Grassrooms – A nice place to relax… probably.

That brings the total to more than 50 distinct environments, each ready to creep you out in new ways. Existing levels have been tweaked with fresh additions, while visuals across the board have been upgraded for maximum immersion. A new mission screen makes replay runs smoother, and multiple alternative endings will challenge the most dedicated explorers to uncover every secret.

Originally released in Early Access back in 2022, Escape the Backrooms has been a runaway success for solo developer Fancy Games, racking up over 90,000 reviews on Steam with a 91% Very Positive rating. With the 1.0 release, Fancy Games is now joined by a team of developers and has partnered with award-winning publisher Secret Mode to bring the terror to even more players—including upcoming console versions.
