Odd Dreams Digital and publisher Secret Mode are ready to put that theory to the test with their debut title, Everything is Crab, an animal evolution roguelite where survival means mutation, adaptation, and maybe a few extra claws. The full launch is set for 2026 on PC via Steam, but you can jump into the free Steam Playtest right now.
In Everything is Crab, you don’t start as the apex predator. You begin life as a squishy little blob trying to avoid getting eaten by anything bigger than you—which is basically everything. From there, you’ll hunt, scavenge, or play it safe by sticking to plants, slowly evolving your way through more than 100 mutations pulled from real-world animals. Each run lets you mix and match traits to create bizarre chimera creatures that might just help you avoid the dreaded fate of becoming a crab like everyone else.
The game world is alive with its own ecosystem. Biomes range from frozen tundras to scorching deserts, and a day/night cycle keeps predators and prey shifting in behavior. Boss fights crank up the tension with towering beasts that force you to learn attack patterns, dodge devastating blows, and chip away at their health before they turn you into dinner.
Failing isn’t the end, though—it’s evolution. Every death unlocks new genetic traits, letting you return stronger, faster, or just weirder in the next run. Challenge scenarios like “survive the Ice Age” add extra layers of difficulty for players who really want to push their survival skills to the limit.
