WhisperGames has teamed up with indie studio Black Voyage Games to announce Lost in the Open, a dark, plot-driven roguelike tactical RPG coming to PC and Steam Deck later this year.
This debut title from Black Voyage Games is as beautiful as it is brutal, combining tactical grid-based combat, survival mechanics, and narrative choice within a gritty low-fantasy world. The studio itself brings together talent from across the globe, including a former Toca Boca developer, a Mexico-based art director, the composer of Parkour Legends, and a 2D animator with experience at Japanese game studios—all united by a shared vision for deep, punishing gameplay and unforgettable atmosphere.
A King on the Run
The story follows King Nrvesk, survivor of a failed assassination attempt, now forced to flee across a procedurally generated overworld with only two loyal bodyguards by his side. Enemy forces pursue him at every turn, and survival hinges on making the right choices—whether in tense tactical battles, branching narrative events, or decisions about who to recruit along the way.
Each playthrough offers new dangers and new encounters. That distant campfire in the forest might belong to a group of friendly merchants… or it could be thieves—or something far worse.
