Set in a kingdom ravaged by a murderous usurper, Valiant Tactics drops players into a realm where chaos reigns. Bandits roam freely, undead rise from ancient graves, and even the wildlife has gone feral. You’ll command a band of up to five adventurers (with a backup squad in camp), each step of your journey pushing back against the tyrant’s grip—or ending in brutal defeat.
Victory won’t come easy. Valiant Tactics is built on a brutal-but-fair roguelite loop where every fallen hero teaches you something new. As you learn the game’s tactical systems and unlock new unit classes, you’ll slowly forge the party that might just make it all the way.
Combat plays out on a tense hex-grid battlefield, where there’s no such thing as “missing”—every hit lands. That means every move must be planned with precision, every class ability leveraged, and every risk weighed. The enemy often has the numbers or the damage, but your brain is your sharpest weapon.
The game offers eight unique classes, including familiar archetypes like Clerics and Marksmen alongside more complex units like the Ardent (a fire-flinging mage) or the defense-focused Guard. Thanks to a gear-flexible system, there are no hard restrictions—yes, you can throw a greatsword on a stealthy Slayer or slap some necromancy onto your Barbarian. It’s all about creating your own deadly synergies.
Between battles, Valiant Tactics throws players into a decision-driven overworld. After each encounter, you’ll choose from three possible paths: tougher fights with environmental modifiers, mysterious events that can twist your fate, or chances to rest, shop, or upgrade. Every step forward changes the course of your campaign.
