Owlcat Games, the celebrated RPG developer behind hits like Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, is stepping into a new role as a publisher. Known for their expertise in crafting deep, narrative-driven RPGs, Owlcat is now looking to support indie developers around the world, providing them with the resources, funding, and guidance needed to bring their own unique RPGs and story-focused games to life.
A New Chapter for Owlcat Games
Andrey Tsvetkov, Head of Publishing at Owlcat Games, shared the studio’s vision: “We want to collaborate with teams that share our passion for storytelling through narrative-driven games. These might not be traditional RPGs, but they’ll definitely prioritize story, characters, and worldbuilding. Having created our dream games, we’re excited to help other teams realize theirs.”
Owlcat has already signed deals with two indie studios: Serbia-based Emotion Spark Studio and Poland’s Another Angle Games, both of whom are developing innovative RPGs that align with Owlcat’s vision.
Upcoming Titles to Watch:
- Rue Valley by Emotion Spark Studio is a narrative RPG that plunges players into a psychological time loop during a psychotherapy session. The game follows a man battling mental challenges as he seeks to uncover the origins of the anomaly trapping him.
- Shadow of the Road by Another Angle Games is an isometric RPG set in an alternate history of feudal Japan. This game weaves a tale of samurai, honor, and allegiance, with tactical turn-based combat and a world brimming with magical yokai and steampunk technology.
Both games are still in early development, with more details expected to be revealed at Gamescom later this month.
Owlcat Acquires META Publishing
In addition to their publishing expansion, Owlcat has gained full control over META Publishing, the label that helped bring Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to PC and consoles. META Publishing focuses on gameplay-first titles with an emphasis on co-op multiplayer. The label boasts a diverse portfolio, including Biped, Spirit of the Island, and Train Valley.
Exciting announcements are expected from META Publishing at gamescom, including the reveal of Biped 2, the sequel to the popular 2020 puzzle action-adventure, and Nested Lands, a new title from Brazilian studio 1M Bits Horde, creators of Spirit of the Island.
