Team17 has announced The Escapists 3, the latest entry in its popular prison escape sandbox series. Revealed during the Triple-I Initiative Showcase, the sequel is coming to PC and consoles in 2027, bringing the franchise into fully 3D environments for the first time.
Players will once again need to craft tools, sneak past guards, fight when necessary, and improvise their way toward freedom. The game features five distinct prisons, each with its own routines, characters, and secrets to uncover. Escaping will require players to study guard rotations, gather supplies, and exploit weaknesses in each facility’s security systems.

There is no single solution to breaking out. Players can search cells, trade with fellow inmates, complete jobs, and turn seemingly useless junk into tools for their escape plans. More than 120 new weapons can be stolen or crafted, opening up additional ways to deal with the challenges ahead. Of course, even the best-laid plans can go wrong, especially when they involve something as questionable as molten chocolate.

Escape Alone or Team Up With Friends
The Escapists 3 also expands its multiplayer options, allowing players to plan their escape attempts with friends. Local split-screen supports two players, while online multiplayer accommodates up to four. Working together means taking advantage of each inmate’s strengths and weaknesses, although a coordinated escape can quickly descend into hilarious chaos.

Another new feature introduces experience points and character progression. Inmates gain XP as they play, unlocking skills and gameplay options that let them specialize in particular aspects of escaping. These abilities carry over between prisons, giving players more opportunities to develop their preferred approach as they progress through the game.

Whether players prefer stealth, crafting, combat, or a combination of different strategies, the expanded systems offer plenty of room to experiment. Each prison presents a new challenge, and players will need to adapt their plans to the obstacles they encounter.

Harley Homewood, general manager at Team17, described the sequel as a fresh perspective on a fan-favorite series, with fully realized 3D correctional facilities opening up new possibilities for prison escapes.

With five prisons, extensive crafting options, character progression, and cooperative multiplayer, The Escapists 3 aims to deliver even more opportunities for creative escapes and spectacular failures when it launches in 2027.
