Sometimes, a promising opportunity can lead somewhere you never expected. In Breeder, an ambitious researcher struggling to fund his work gets an offer that could change everything. But what initially seems like a breakthrough soon takes a disturbing turn in this upcoming horror thriller from writer and director Alex Goyette.
The film follows Russell, a dedicated researcher who has spent years trying to develop a solution to help save endangered bee populations. With funding running low, his work faces an uncertain future until Patti, an eccentric dog breeder, offers to sponsor his research. Russell accepts the opportunity and travels to her isolated ranch, hoping to finally make progress on his project. However, Patti has ambitions that extend far beyond breeding dogs, and Russell soon discovers that the arrangement comes with a price.
Breeder builds its horror around an unsettling premise that combines scientific research, a remote setting, and a benefactor whose intentions are not what they seem. As Russell becomes entangled in Patti’s world, the promise of financial support gives way to something far more sinister. The less he understands about what is happening around him, the more dangerous his situation becomes.
The film stars Daniel Doheny as Russell, Maddie Phillips as Ainsley, and Dot-Marie Jones as Patti. Phillips is known for her roles in Teenage Bounty Hunters and Gen V, while Doheny has appeared in The Package and Alex Strangelove. Jones is familiar to television audiences for her work on Glee. The supporting cast includes Tanaya Beatty, Paige McGarvin, Carmen Moore, and Lillian Doucet-Roche.
Behind the camera, Alex Goyette serves as both writer and director. The film is produced by a team that includes Byron Austen Ashley, K. Asher Levin, Brian Mitchell, Ian Start, and Chris Wilkinson.
Rated R for its disturbing material, graphic nudity, violence, bloody images, and language, Breeder looks to deliver an unsettling mix of horror and thriller elements. Rather than revealing too much about the secrets hidden at the ranch, the premise leaves plenty of room for the situation to become increasingly unpredictable.
Breeder is scheduled to arrive in select U.S. theaters on October 28, 2026, through Independent Film Company.
