NC, formerly known as NCSOFT, has launched AION 2, its action-packed open-world MMORPG, to players around the world. The game is now available for free on PC through Steam and NC’s proprietary PURPLE platform.
Following the original AION, which launched on PC 17 years ago, NC began reaching out to Western players in March to gather feedback and prepare AION 2 for its global audience. The company introduced developer-led videos, adjusted pricing for Western players, and shared a roadmap of upcoming announcements as part of its preparations.

The game was also showcased at Summer Games Fest Play Days in June and Gamescom in August before a public Launch Scale Test in September. Early Access followed on September 30 as part of the War For Atreia campaign. During its Early Access launch, AION 2 reached the No. 1 position on Steam’s global top-selling chart across more than 10 regions.
Designed specifically for PC, AION 2 features local servers in North America, South America, Europe, and Japan. The game is localized in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. It carries an ESRB rating of T for Teen and a PEGI rating of 16+.

Freedom and Flight Define AION 2
Freedom of movement and flight are central to AION 2, with players able to take to the skies for exploration and aerial combat. The game combines fast-paced combat with precision, timing, and positioning while retaining traditional tab-targeting mechanics.

The MMORPG offers a wide variety of PvE content, including solo activities, five-player dungeons, and 10-player raids. Players will need to learn enemy mechanics, master movement, and work together with their teams to overcome the game’s challenges.

PvP battles range from 1v1 and 4v4 arenas to large-scale cross-server Realm-vs-Realm conflicts. The faction-based Abyss from the original AION also returns, giving players another setting for large-scale battles.

Built using Unreal Engine 5 with extensive modifications for character customization and multiplayer, AION 2 features a high-fantasy world that is 36 times larger than the original game. The expanded setting is designed around unrestricted movement, giving players greater freedom to explore its environments.

Character creation offers eight classes and more than 200 customization options, allowing players to create characters that fit their preferred appearance and playstyle. Combat focuses on precision, timing, and positioning, creating a faster tempo than the original game.

The story takes place 200 years after the conflict of the original AION. Following the destruction of the Tower of Eternity, the traditional Elyos and Asmodian factions must navigate a shattered universe while facing the newly empowered Balaur.
AION 2 is available now for free on PC through Steam and PURPLE.
