Grace Tao has been dead for three years. Now, her story is being told through the people who knew and loved her.

Remaining Grace is an intimate, non-linear ghost story from ambedo studios, the debut project from Quintin Pan, Lead Designer of Dreamfall Chapters. The narrative adventure explores chosen family, human connection, and the seemingly insignificant moments that can ultimately define a life. The game is coming to PC and Mac via Steam and will make its first public appearance at PAX West 2026.

Players will uncover Grace’s story through the interconnected lives of those she left behind. Spanning three different time periods, Remaining Grace presents a fragmented narrative that players must piece together as they explore the relationships surrounding Grace and the circumstances of her death.

Grace’s spirit has an unusual ability: she can shift between bodies through physical contact. This allows players to experience the world from the perspectives of the people closest to her, including her Chinese immigrant parents, her adopted sister, the father of her child, her father’s new wife, and the childhood best friend who never managed to move on from Grace.

As Grace’s spirit moves between these relationships, players will explore locations including parks, tea houses, and her childhood home. Each new perspective reveals another part of the complicated web of connections, memories, and emotions that make up Grace’s life.

The game takes place on Turtle Island, an alternate-history version of North America that was never colonized. In this timeline, Christopher Columbus failed in his attempt to sail west, creating a very different cultural landscape where Indigenous communities and diaspora populations developed under an entirely different set of social and cultural norms.

This alternate history is presented through a distinctive pencil-sketch art style, giving the world an intimate and handcrafted appearance that complements the game’s deeply personal storytelling.

“Our goal is to create an intimate, raw, and honest exploration of complex lived experiences, and use an alternate-history setting to ask pointed and provocative questions,” said Quintin Pan, Creative Director at ambedo studios. “Remaining Grace is the culmination of our immigrant stories, our Indigenous stories, our wrestlings with faith, race, gender, and culture all into a complex non-linear narrative tapestry for the player to unfold.”

Remaining Grace will launch on PC and Mac via Steam. Players attending PAX West 2026 will also have the opportunity to experience the game firsthand through a playable demo at the PAX Rising booth.
