Award-winning Ukrainian developer Triomatica Games, best known for Boxville, has unveiled I Want to Play the Villain!, a theatre-themed logic puzzle game coming to PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Players won’t have to wait long to experience its unique puzzle mechanics, as a free Steam demo launches on August 17.
In I Want to Play the Villain!, players step behind the curtain to direct a theatrical production where every actor has their own ambitions, fears, preferences, and dream roles. Rather than simply casting performers, you’ll need to carefully rearrange actors, swap costumes, and even alter the story itself to ensure everyone is satisfied while keeping the production running smoothly.

The game’s central challenge revolves around solving increasingly complex logic puzzles. Every decision matters, whether it’s assigning an actor to their ideal role, pairing the right performers together, or preventing characters from facing situations they desperately want to avoid. A single casting change can dramatically alter how each performance unfolds, encouraging players to experiment with different solutions.

Each chapter introduces a fresh cast, setting, mechanics, and storyline, ensuring the gameplay continues to evolve throughout the adventure. As new personalities, relationships, and theatrical dilemmas are introduced, players will need to carefully study each character’s motivations and preferences to discover the perfect arrangement for every production.

Rather than relying on traditional puzzle mechanics, I Want to Play the Villain! blends narrative-driven storytelling with logical deduction. Modular story elements allow performances to play out differently based on the choices players make, offering multiple outcomes and rewarding creative problem-solving.

Key features include theatre-inspired logic puzzles, diverse chapters with unique mechanics and characters, modular stories that change based on player decisions, and increasingly challenging scenarios built around each actor’s ambitions, fears, and relationships.

I Want to Play the Villain! is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Players interested in experiencing its theatrical puzzle-solving mechanics early can download the free Steam demo beginning August 17.
