The gamescom dev awards 2026 have recognized six games, teams, and individuals for their creativity, innovation, and contributions to the games industry. The awards were presented during a live ceremony on Monday afternoon at gamescom dev in Cologne, Germany.

Hosted by Markus Wilding, the ceremony celebrated four projects featured in this year’s gamescom dev indie expo. The awards recognized achievements in visual presentation, innovation, potential, and sound design. Two additional Speakers’ Choice awards were selected by the gamescom dev speaker community, with speakers from both the 2025 and 2026 events voting for outstanding achievements in game design and long-term contributions to the industry.

The Visual Excellence Award went to MUTTER from DeadlyCrow Games. The game follows a nine-year-old boy in wartime England as his mother gradually transforms into a monster. Its distinctive stop-motion presentation gives the game an eerie visual identity, with its unsettling characters and artistic direction playing a major role in the experience.

The Most Innovative Game award, powered by Epic Games, was presented to PRAVDA(concept25) from Floating Stone Studio. The narrative-driven stealth-puzzle game explores the concept of truth in a world where truth is not simply discovered but constructed. Its surreal setting and unusual combination of narrative and gameplay mechanics helped it stand out among this year’s indie projects. The team also received a €3,000 prize from the Epic Games Store, presented on stage by Epic Games Director of Portfolio and Strategy Kyle Billings.

Cards & Cannons from Flamehead Games took home the Most Promising Game award. The game blends roguelite tower defense, deckbuilding, and strategy, challenging players to build worlds, defend them during individual runs, and unlock new upgrades between attempts. Players can progress through different environments while taking on increasingly challenging bosses.

The Best Sound Design award went to INVASIA from Rocat Games. Set aboard an abandoned space station suffering from a mysterious parasitic outbreak, the sci-fi survival horror game uses sound as a major part of its atmosphere. Audio helps build tension, establish the environment, and keep players immersed in the station’s unsettling surroundings.

The Speakers’ Choice Game Design Excellence Award was awarded to Blue Prince from Dogubomb and Raw Fury. The mystery and strategy game places players inside the constantly changing halls of Mt. Holly, where they decide which rooms appear behind closed doors. Every decision affects their route through the mansion before its layout resets, creating a system built around observation, planning, experimentation, and discovery.

The final award, the Speakers’ Choice Ambassador Award, went to Amir Satvat, Business Development Director at Tencent Games and founder of ASGC. Satvat was recognized for his ongoing efforts to support people across the games industry. Through ASGC, he has developed a free support network offering career resources, community assistance, and practical help to games professionals during a period of considerable change across the industry.

The ceremony also concluded with a special tribute to Stephan Reichart, the founder of gamescom dev and former Managing Director of game events. Following years of developing the event after establishing it in 2017 under the name devcom, game chairman Lars Janssen and game events Managing Director Frederik Hammes recognized Reichart for his commitment, creativity, and leadership within the gamescom dev community.

“Stephan’s legacy simply cannot be overstated,” said Frederik Hammes. “His incomparable enthusiasm, his way of connecting instantly with so many people has shaped the identity of this event as something special. The fact that this year it stands alongside with the worldwide phenomenon that is gamescom as gamescom dev is testament to his achievement.”

The gamescom dev awards 2026 ultimately highlighted both the breadth of creativity coming from independent developers and the people working to strengthen the wider games industry, giving the event a fitting celebration of the developers and community behind gamescom dev.
