Developer Junkfish has announced that Wilderdark will launch on Steam on November 3, 2026. Revealed during the Convergence Showcase, the first-person survival horror game combines stealth, exploration, crafting, and prehistoric creatures in a mysterious world where survival depends on staying out of sight.
Players assume the role of a field operative sent by a secretive organization to investigate an isolated island rumored to hold the key to immortality. The island has been overtaken by a strange ectoparasitic organism that has corrupted both its dinosaur inhabitants and surrounding plant life. As the expedition unfolds, players will document the ecosystem, collect scientific samples, and uncover what happened to previous missions—including one led by the protagonist’s own parents.

Rather than relying on combat, Wilderdark emphasizes stealth as its primary survival mechanic. Dangerous predators track players through both sight and sound, forcing them to carefully navigate dense jungles, abandoned research facilities, and parasite-infested ruins while avoiding detection. Observation and patience become essential tools for staying alive.

Exploration also plays a major role throughout the adventure. Players can photograph wildlife and environmental discoveries, gather resources, and craft equipment needed to survive the increasingly hostile island. Every expedition reveals more about the mysterious infection and the fate of those who ventured there before.

A playable demo is currently available on Steam, giving players an early look at the game’s tense atmosphere and survival mechanics. Following community feedback, Junkfish recently updated the demo with a new map and waypoint system to improve navigation, alongside several quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.

Wilderdark marks Junkfish’s return to the stealth survival horror genre after the success of Monstrum. With its blend of scientific exploration, relentless dinosaur encounters, and atmospheric horror, the game aims to offer a fresh take on survival horror when it arrives on Steam this November.
