Bit Bot has announced Final Boss, a new video game based on Tyler Kirkham’s hit Image Comics series of the same name. The upcoming adaptation is being developed alongside Bit Bot’s in-house studio, Mecanimal Games, and is now available to wishlist on Steam.
Created, written, and illustrated by Kirkham—whose work includes Amazing Spider-Man, Green Lantern, and X-Men—Final Boss follows Tommy Brazen, a former street brawler and powered-up mercenary whose past is tied to a much larger mystery. The comic’s blend of arcade action, fighting games, and over-the-top action storytelling makes it a natural fit for an interactive adaptation.

The game is designed for one to four players in local couch co-op. Players will fight through enemy-filled stages in a retro pixel-art side-scrolling beat ’em up, taking on waves of opponents before reaching each stage’s climactic boss encounter.
That is where Final Boss changes gears.

As each level reaches its conclusion, animated comic-book panels will introduce the boss before the action transitions into a focused one-on-one 3D fighting game. The structure is meant to capture the escalating energy of the comic while giving its biggest showdowns a more personal, dramatic feel.

Kirkham is serving as a key creative collaborator on the project, with Bit Bot Creative Director Frank O’Connor—known for his work as Franchise Creative Director on Halo and Perfect Dark—leading development alongside Kirkham and Bit Bot co-owner Joshua Viola. Bit Bot co-owner Celldweller will compose the original soundtrack.

“Final Boss was born from my love of classic arcade games, fighting games, action movies, and comics,” Kirkham said. “Working directly with Bit Bot allows us to translate that DNA into a video game that feels authentic to the comic while expanding the world in exciting new ways.”

With its mix of retro brawling, modern fighting-game showdowns, comic-book presentation, and local co-op action, Final Boss looks to deliver an adaptation that leans into exactly what makes the source material stand out.
