Developer Black Hand has officially released the Steam demo for The Dark West following the game’s appearances during several Summer Game Fest events. Blending occult western horror with classic isometric action RPG gameplay, The Dark West throws players into a cursed frontier consumed by greed, corruption, and dark magic.
The newly released demo offers an early look at the game’s progression systems, encouraging players to experiment with a variety of character builds through gear upgrades, collectible cards, and talent choices.

Players will step into the boots of Kane, the Gunslinger, a highly mobile mid-range class specializing in revolvers, precision reload mechanics, and devastating burst damage. Kane’s abilities allow bullets to chain between enemies, unleash rapid-fire barrages, dash through shadows for quick repositioning, and summon spectral echoes that repeat every shot he fires.

Set in a fallen frontier where faith and damnation collide, The Dark West challenges players to survive against horrific enemies and supernatural threats lurking across a dying world. Combat is fast-paced and unforgiving, requiring skill, timing, and determination as players battle through a landscape corrupted by black magic.

Character progression plays a major role in shaping your journey. New abilities, equipment, and talents unlock over time, allowing players to create unique builds while making difficult choices that blur the line between salvation and damnation.

Exploration also plays a key role as players venture through a frontier ravaged by dark forces. Every town, wasteland, and battlefield tells a story of survival in a world where the price of staying alive is often paid in blood rather than coin.

Adding to the tension are two opposing factions vying for control. The Order presents itself as a force of righteousness, while the Damned embrace the curses that helped them survive. As alliances shift and motives become unclear, players will quickly learn that the greatest threats may not always be the monsters hiding in the darkness.
The The Dark West demo is available now on Steam.
