The upcoming indie puzzler Trackastrophe! is preparing to leave the station. Publisher Black Smoke Studios and Belgium-based developer Kinoko Studio have announced that the wholesome train-themed puzzle game will officially launch on Steam on May 28.
Trackastrophe! puts players in charge of guiding a determined little locomotive across a series of vibrant, isometric puzzle stages. The goal sounds simple—build the right railway route and get your train safely to the other side—but the journey quickly becomes chaotic as players face increasingly strange obstacles and environmental hazards.

Across its colorful, retro-cartoon-inspired worlds, players must construct tracks using a variety of directional and movement tiles. Once the route is ready, it’s time to pull the GO lever and watch the train roll—hopefully along the correct path. The challenge lies in carefully analyzing each map and building a solution that navigates the terrain without sending the train off the rails.

The game features more than 100 puzzles spread across several imaginative biomes. Each world introduces its own mechanics and environmental twists, including tunnels, slippery ice patches, dangerous ravines, and even interdimensional portals. For players looking for an extra challenge, bonus levels add even more complex track-building puzzles.

Customization is also part of the ride. Players can personalize their eager little engine with a variety of cosmetic options, including different colors and a collection of hats to give the train its own personality.

While the puzzles may grow increasingly tricky, the game emphasizes a relaxed and cheerful experience. If a solution proves elusive, players can turn to the built-in hint system for a little extra help.

With its playful art style, inventive puzzle design, and more than a hundred levels to master, Trackastrophe! aims to deliver a cozy yet challenging ride when it launches on Steam on May 28.
