Developer Mysteria Studio has announced a public playtest for Asterfel, its upcoming dark fantasy action RPG inspired by the classic RPGs of the early 2000s. The playtest begins on April 17 and will run during Steam Medieval Fest, giving players their first chance to explore the game’s open world and test its combat systems.

Asterfel is a third-person ARPG that places players in the role of a shipwreck survivor stranded on the island nation of Asterfel. Once prosperous, the land has been thrown into chaos due to a king’s greed and the dangers unleashed by magical mining operations. Mutant creatures roam the land, ancient forces have awakened, and factions now compete to control the island’s future.

A Nation Divided
The island is split between three major factions, each with its own goals and ideology. Players can choose to align with the disciplined Crown Wardens, support the rebellious Kindred, or work alongside the magically inclined Scholars. These alliances will shape both the story and the path players take through the world.

Combat and Exploration
Combat in Asterfel blends melee and magic, allowing players to fight using swords, bows, or magical runes that unleash powerful spells. The system encourages experimentation, letting players mix different combat styles and upgrade their abilities as they grow stronger.

Outside of combat, players will take on story-driven quests, gather resources, craft equipment, and explore a variety of environments across the island. From dry wastelands to dense jungles and ancient ruins, every area presents new dangers as enemies grow stronger the further players venture.

A Dangerous Island
The island’s problems extend beyond political conflict. The king’s magical mines have disturbed the natural order, unleashing mutated creatures and awakening an ancient god long thought to be dormant. With nature itself behaving unpredictably, survival on Asterfel requires both skill and caution.
The upcoming playtest offers the first opportunity for players to step into this troubled world, experiment with combat styles, and begin shaping the fate of the island when it launches on April 17.
