During the 2026 Pégases ceremony, developer Atelier QBD unveiled its upcoming project TOKENS, a roguelike deckbuilder that reimagines the genre by replacing traditional cards with collectible tokens. Players can get their first taste of the experience today, as a playable demo has launched on Steam ahead of the game’s planned Q3 2026 release.
Set within a stylish fantasy world inspired by the prestigious social clubs of the roaring twenties, TOKENS centers around the mysterious Token Club — a secret society reserved for exceptional artists and daring adventurers. Players step into the role of an ambitious newcomer determined to prove they belong among the elite.

To earn their place, players must rely on strategy and adaptability by building a powerful collection of Tokens enhanced with Arcanas, which grant special abilities, and Effigies, unique items that alter the course of a run. Overseeing the trials is the enigmatic dealer known as Mister Mirage, who orchestrates the challenges standing between players and their invitation to the club.

Each run introduces a fresh set of obstacles and opportunities. Progression is tied to arranging tokens on the table to surpass a required score, demanding careful planning and tactical thinking. Every three rounds, players will face off against powerful boss encounters designed to test their mastery of the system and force them to rethink their approach.

The newly released demo offers players an early look at the game’s core mechanics and its distinctive spin on the roguelike deckbuilding formula. When it launches in Q3 2026, TOKENS will support 10 languages, including French, English, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

Speaking about the project, Atelier QBD founder and TOKENS developer Quentin De Beukelaer explained that the team wanted to place gameplay at the forefront after previously working on narrative-driven horror titles Narcosis and Decarnation. As a fan of roguelike deckbuilders, he set out to experiment with the genre’s formula by replacing cards with tokens, creating a system where randomness and player choices intertwine as they attempt to carve a path into the elusive Token Club.
