Kakao Games and Ocean Drive Studio have dropped a brand-new developer update for God Save Birmingham, offering a closer look at several major systems players will get their hands on during this weekend’s Closed Alpha Test.

The second update video focuses heavily on combat, showcasing expanded weapon variety and more precise player control. A new blunt weapon category has been introduced, featuring tools of destruction like hammers, maces, and even improvised options such as slabs of meat. These additions complement an improved aiming system that allows players to more accurately target specific body parts on the undead.

That precision matters. Enemies now react dynamically depending on where they’re struck. The newly revealed scythe demonstrates this system perfectly—aim high and you might decapitate a zombie in one brutal swing, aim low and you can sever its legs to bring it crashing down. Combat appears more tactical than ever, rewarding careful positioning and deliberate strikes rather than wild flailing.

Beyond combat, Ocean Drive Studio also provided a first look at the game’s construction and durability mechanics. Players will be able to dismantle large environmental objects for materials or use those resources to craft structures such as fire pits, barricades, doors, and latches. Survival won’t just be about fighting—it’ll be about fortifying and adapting.

The update also highlights a deeper health management system, where players must actively avoid disease and injury, adding another layer of tension to exploration. A new guide system aims to better onboard players into the game’s mechanics, while expanded crafting options and custom animations for individual gameplay actions promise a more immersive experience overall.

Following Phase 1 of the Closed Alpha—which wrapped last weekend and delivered substantial feedback—the development team is preparing for Phase 2. The next test runs from February 26 through March 2, 2026, welcoming both returning and new players into the fold.

With systems evolving rapidly and player feedback shaping development, God Save Birmingham continues to refine its blend of brutal combat and grounded survival mechanics. The game is currently available to wishlist on Steam as it marches toward its next milestone.
