Indie developer Codex Interactive has officially unveiled Omen, a top-down sci-fi extraction shooter that blends base defense, roguelike progression, and high-stakes PvE combat. The studio’s debut title is coming soon to Steam, with a playable demo arriving Thursday, February 5.

Set in the ruins of a fallen galactic empire, Omen throws players into a bleak future where humanity has splintered into scattered survivors known as The Voidborn. You play as an Astral, an immortal starship pilot aligned with the Halvonic League, tasked with investigating a mysterious cosmic anomaly called The Veil — a phenomenon worshipped by cultists intent on igniting total war across the galaxy.

A Hub Worth Defending
At the heart of Omen is The Monastery, a crumbling structure that becomes your central hub. Here, you’ll interact with NPCs to pick up missions, trade for supplies, and craft new weapons and gear for future raids. But the Monastery isn’t safe for long — the forces of The Veil will actively retaliate, launching brutal attacks on your base.

Between runs, you’ll need to build defenses, deploy structures, and survive wave-based assaults. Successfully holding the line rewards you with powerful perks known as Blessings, stackable roguelike upgrades that dramatically alter your next run — though they vanish once that run ends.
High-Risk Extraction Runs
When it’s time to venture out, players select enemy-controlled regions to raid. The goal is simple: loot fast and extract before the enemy armada arrives. Stay longer, and you’ll face escalating waves of enemies in exchange for higher-value rewards.
Each mission features optional mini-objectives, rare blueprints, and valuable components to bring back to the Monastery, giving players the choice to play it safe or push their luck for greater gains.

A Four-Act Descent Into the Veil
Omen unfolds across a four-act narrative structure, with each region of the Samarin Empire offering distinct challenges, loot pools, and questlines. Every act culminates in a major boss encounter designed to test your loadout, Blessings, and auxiliary tools like drones, cloaking tech, and allied ships.
From military installations to secret research facilities and the empire’s capital city, players will steadily push closer to The Veil itself, culminating in a gauntlet-style endgame run against the galaxy’s deadliest foes.
