Newly revived publisher Acclaim has teamed up with Swedish indie studio Elden Pixels to bring The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest to Nintendo Switch and Steam on February 10, 2026.
Developed by the team behind Alwa’s Legacy and A Void Hope, The Prisoning places players inside the fractured mind of Fletcher Howie Jr., a game developer pushed to the edge during the final stages of a massive project. What begins as a post-crunch therapy session quickly spirals out of control, trapping Fletcher inside his own subconscious. From there, the game unfolds as a comedic Metroidvania where fears, anxieties, and emotional baggage take on very real—and very hostile—forms.

Gameplay centers on exploring the warped corridors of Fletcher’s mental prison, battling towering bosses, unlocking upgrades, and wielding an ever-expanding arsenal of weapons. The tone balances dark subject matter with sharp humor, leaning into exaggerated scenarios while still grounding the experience in themes of burnout and creative pressure.
Acclaim has also released a new gameplay trailer alongside the release date announcement, offering a closer look at the hazard-filled environments, fast-paced combat, and pixel-art presentation that defines the experience.

About The Prisoning: Fletcher’s Quest
After a therapy session goes horribly wrong, players find themselves trapped inside the mind of a game developer on the brink of physical and emotional collapse. Presented as a Metroidvania steeped in anxiety and inspired by real events, the game tasks players with helping Fletcher Howie Jr. escape his mental prison and reclaim control.

For those less interested in introspection, the game can also be approached as a straightforward action experience—complete with tight Metroidvania mechanics, upgradeable weapons, relentless enemies, and bosses that can be shot, blasted, or otherwise eliminated.
