What if you could rewrite the moment you regret most? Would it change the outcome… or just how you live with it?

Indonesian indie studio Calcatz, in partnership with publishing platform indie.io, is set to launch its debut narrative game Undying Flower on Steam this May 16. This isn’t your typical interactive story — it’s a raw, surreal exploration of trauma, memory, and the desperate longing to rewrite the past. Deeply emotional and visually arresting, Undying Flower invites players into a haunting journey through the fragmented memories of a woman searching for self-forgiveness.

Step Into Nala’s Mind
At the heart of Undying Flower is Nala, a young woman undergoing a secretive experimental treatment designed to unlock long-buried memories. Guided by a mysterious entity known only as The Flower, players descend into a dreamlike world where memory bends, reality fractures, and emotion shapes the rules.

As Nala confronts her past, she’s forced to relive painful moments — including the mysterious death of her beloved grandfather. Was it really just an accident? Or is there something more buried beneath the guilt she carries?

Memory Is a Maze
The game puts players directly into pivotal memories, allowing them to explore scenes from the perspectives of both Nala and her grandfather. Through branching dialogue, subtle emotional shifts, and player-driven choices, each scene can change — conversations can soften, tensions can escalate, and outcomes may evolve. It’s not just about what happened, but how it felt… and how those feelings might shift when viewed through a different lens.

The game doesn’t offer easy answers. Instead, it challenges players to sift through conflicting truths and experiment with emotional cause-and-effect, hoping to find a version of the past that feels whole — even if it can’t be healed.

Indonesian Culture Reimagined
Drawing on their roots, the team at Calcatz infuses Undying Flower with imagery inspired by Tari Topeng, a traditional Indonesian masked dance. In the game, these masks aren’t used to hide emotions, but to expose them — haunting, expressive artifacts that cling to statues, infused with inky tendrils of sorrow. It’s a striking reinterpretation of cultural heritage, transformed into a symbol of vulnerability and emotional truth.

A Soundtrack That Feels Like Grief
The original soundtrack — composed by Michael W. Pflug and featuring vocal performances by Stef Amadeus and Eien Nagi (who also serves as the game’s director) — weaves an emotional soundscape that blurs the line between score and storytelling. From ambient hums to intimate guitar riffs and soul-stirring vocals, the music pulses with the weight of grief and the fleeting hope of redemption.

More Than Just a Game
“Undying Flower is a spark of our journey to express strong human emotions through what we believe is the ultimate form of art: video games,” says director Eien Nagi. “This isn’t just a surreal story about regret. It’s about how a single moment between two people who love each other can change everything.”

Undying Flower isn’t here to distract or entertain — it’s here to make you feel, reflect, and maybe even heal. For anyone who’s ever wished they could take back a moment, this game hits hard.
