The demo gives players access to the complete Wendigo hunt, one of the game’s three major story-driven investigations. Set in dark, decaying woodland environments, the hunt draws inspiration from North American Algonquian folklore and emphasizes atmosphere, exploration, and problem-solving over straightforward combat. The Wendigo stalks a forest filled with shifting terrain, hidden caves, and environmental puzzles, and defeating it requires more than firepower. Players must search for clues and perform a ritual to seal the creature away.

At full release, Folklore Hunter will feature three distinct story hunts. In addition to the Wendigo, players will face the Strigoi, a vampiric entity drawn from Romanian folklore that haunts an abandoned ghost village, as well as the legendary Mothman, which awaits hunters on a mysterious island at launch.

The full version of the game supports online co-op across all hunts and modes, allowing players to team up and customize their approach. Hunters can equip a variety of tools, including cameras, crucifixes, explosive canisters, and other unlockable gear. The game also includes Contract Hunts, which introduce randomized environments and puzzles for added replayability, along with Steam Workshop support for community-created mods and content.

According to Jayde Cohen, founder and sole developer at Liquid Donkey Games, the demo is designed to showcase the range of tension, environmental storytelling, and puzzle design players can expect from the full release. Each creature encounter is built to feel distinct, with the Wendigo hunt offering a different pace and atmosphere compared to the Strigoi and Mothman.

The Folklore Hunter demo is available now on Steam. The game’s full 1.0 launch arrives Friday, January 30, with a price increase from $11.99 to $17.99.
