Magic in Songs of Glimmerwick is performed through music, turning melodies into spells that shape the environment and interact with the world. Players can use songs to communicate with trees, enchant tools so they work automatically, or even reshape the landscape to overcome natural obstacles.

Outside of classes, life at the academy is full of activities. Players can tend the university garden, planting both ordinary and magical crops while using spells to control the weather and nurture plants. The island itself is bustling with activity, from festivals and rumors spreading among the townsfolk to small dramas unfolding between students and residents.

Character progression allows players to develop new skills as they gain experience, unlocking abilities that improve gardening, trading, and exploration. Some abilities are a bit more unusual—like learning how to talk with frogs.

The game’s world is also fully voiced, bringing each character to life with performances that help flesh out the island’s personality. Players can also customize their character while discovering extracurricular activities such as moth racing, seashell diving, and forest expeditions with the Green Sprites.

Developed entirely by Tara Kan, Provoron is more than just a game—it’s a personal expression, years in the making. The art, story, and design are all crafted by Kan, who began developing the game as a form of therapy and self-reflection.

Many people remember childhood as a carefree time. For others, it was far from it, Kan writes in a personal statement shared alongside the announcement. “I’m making Provoron to support those people and show them they are not alone.”

In Provoron, players explore a surreal world through the eyes of Ankou, a “white crow” metaphorically and literally isolated from the rest. Mischievous red demons follow him—creatures that meddle, steal, and weigh him down—unseen by anyone else. As the game unfolds, Ankou is joined by three teenage characters who represent different stages of the developer’s own life, each offering stories that help piece together a quiet but powerful emotional narrative.

While the game avoids explicit depictions of trauma, Provoron leans into atmosphere, emotion, and symbolism to tell a story of resilience, acceptance, and personal growth.
