Warsaw-based indie studio Virtual Alchemy has just announced their debut game, Band of Crusaders, a strategy RPG that draws inspiration from The Witcher series. Set in a dark and corrupted version of medieval Europe, this game invites players to step into the role of a Grandmaster leading a knightly order. Your mission? To recruit and train crusaders, build and manage your camp, and engage in fierce battles against the forces of chaos, all while navigating the harsh realities of a world on the brink of destruction.

Band of Crusaders features intense real-time combat where your band of medieval warriors faces off against demons straight out of hell’s darkest myths. The game emphasizes player-driven storytelling, allowing your choices to shape the fate of your crusaders. With a rich array of weapons and skill progression, you’ll command knights, spearmen, archers, shield wardens, and artificers in your quest to repel the demonic invasion. As chaos spreads across the duchies and principalities of a historically authentic 1350s Europe, you’ll be up against bandits, eldritch cults, and the unholy horrors they’ve unleashed.

“Band of Crusaders is about a company of warriors you will raise from peasants to heroes against the forces of chaos. The Knights Templar are gone, and Archdemons are at the door, threatening the already fragile peace that European smallfolk have come to cherish,” says studio CEO Dominik Sypnicki.

We wanted to see what the world of The Witcher would look like if you removed all the Witchers.

“Our artistic approach to Band of Crusaders merges historically authentic representations of medieval tools, armor, and weaponry, with demonic creatures inspired by biblical descriptions and European folklore,” shares Art Director Kamil Mickiewicz.
