While information surrounding the project is still limited, the game has already been described as a psychological horror experience inspired by the legendary P.T. demo, blending tense first-person exploration with retro PS1-style visuals and disturbing themes centered around identity, self-hatred, and personal trauma.

One of the game’s most chilling details is its repeated warning to players: “If ever asked to look at yourself… don’t.” That idea appears to be central to the game’s horror, with mirrors and self-reflection playing a major role in the experience.

According to the game’s itch.io page, T.W.I.R.L. was originally created during the Haunted PS1 community’s “David Lynch: Catch Ideas Like Fish” game jam, which helps explain the game’s surreal and dreamlike tone.

The project is being led by writer and director Ben Escobar alongside a small indie development team, with the current version offering roughly an hour of gameplay. The developers have also confirmed support for controllers and haptic feedback on compatible devices.

Community reactions across Reddit have been surprisingly strong for such an early indie horror release, with many players praising the game’s oppressive atmosphere, unique lighting style, and emotional themes. Several users compared its presentation to classic psychological horror experiences while applauding its blend of low-poly visuals and cinematic lighting.

Currently, T.W.I.R.L. is available as a downloadable experience on itch.io, while a larger Steam release is planned for 2026 across PC, Mac, and Linux platforms.

For horror fans searching for something atmospheric, deeply personal, and genuinely unsettling, this may be one indie project worth watching closely.

The game will launch with a Standard Edition priced at $49.99 and a Digital Deluxe Edition available for $69.99.

Set in the year 19**, ANOMALITH follows investigator Reona Minazuki, who awakens after spending ten years trapped inside a massive anomaly known as the “Sarcophagus.” Now possessing a dangerous sensitivity to the Otherworlds, Reona joins the government’s struggling Danger Zone Countermeasures Office to investigate the spreading anomalies and uncover the truth behind the warped dimensions threatening humanity.

Combat focuses on tense third-person gunplay against unpredictable enemies, with players able to finish off stunned monsters using melee attacks. The game’s environments lean heavily into psychological and liminal horror, featuring surreal locations like gravity-defying apartment complexes and endless trains that twist reality in unsettling ways. Inventory management and situational awareness also play a major role in survival.

One of ANOMALITH’s standout systems is its “Demi-Humanization System,” which allows Reona to absorb powers from anomalies and unlock a range of active and passive abilities. Players can further tailor their playstyle with a wide arsenal of weapons, attachments, artifacts, and outfit customization options.

Fashion customization appears to be another major focus, with more than 300 cosmetic items spread across nine customizable outfit categories for Reona.

Outside of combat missions, players will return to a central home base where they can interact with allies, unlock upgrades, and piece together the mystery surrounding the Otherworlds. More than 200 collectible investigation reports can also be discovered throughout the game, offering deeper lore and insight into the anomalies terrorizing the world.

The studio also confirmed that The Florist is coming to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, with additional release details expected later in 2026.

In The Florist, players follow Jessica Park, who arrives in Joycliffe to complete a last-minute delivery. What begins as a routine stop quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival as the town becomes consumed by a deadly outbreak of unnatural plant growth. As floral overgrowth spreads throughout the area, Jessica must solve puzzles, battle horrifying creatures, and uncover the disturbing truth behind an experiment aimed at creating new life through horrific means.

One of the game’s most unsettling threats is The Harvester, a towering figure carrying a blood-soaked sack filled with unspeakable horrors. Relentlessly hunting through the town, The Harvester appears tied directly to the origins of the outbreak and a sinister plan years in the making. Jessica will need to stay alive long enough to uncover the truth and stop whatever nightmare is blooming beneath Joycliffe’s surface.

While The Harvester stands out as a terrifying presence, Unclear Games warns that he is only one of many deadly enemies lurking within the overgrown town.

With its eerie atmosphere, grotesque creature designs, and blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival horror gameplay, The Florist is shaping up to be one of the more unsettling indie horror titles on the horizon.

The upcoming first-person psychological horror title places players inside a maze of claustrophobic Korean alleyways where something unnatural lurks just out of sight.

The demo offers roughly 30 minutes of gameplay and introduces the unsettling mystery at the heart of the experience. Players step into the shoes of Soyeon, a high school student leaving her evening class only to find that the familiar streets around her have changed. The alleyways stretch endlessly, the exit never appears, and a bracelet gifted by her shaman grandmother suddenly begins to glow—signaling that something supernatural is close.

At its core, The Alley revolves around anomaly detection. The bracelet warns that something in the environment isn’t right, and it’s up to the player to uncover what it is. Suspicious objects and strange occurrences must be photographed and sent to Soyeon’s grandmother via MMS for judgment. Players must determine whether what they’ve found is a Ghost Trace—something impossible in the real world—or a Ghost Feint, an unsettling but plausible event. Every correct call moves you closer to the truth, while mistakes invite something far more dangerous.

The horror experience is deeply rooted in Korean folklore, drawing inspiration from mudang shamanism and generational spiritual traditions. The development team at AIXLAB has spent years refining atmospheric horror environments, recreating the look and feel of real Korean backstreets with careful detail. The narrow alleys, storefronts, and signage all feel authentic—yet just slightly wrong—creating an unsettling sense that you don’t belong there.

The demo also introduces some of the game’s most intense moments, including ghost chases where players must sprint for survival as a vengeful spirit closes in. When danger appears, hesitation can be fatal.

Silver Lining Interactive and Painted Black Games are leaning into that concept with The Road of Dust and Sorrow, a story-driven pixel art adventure that now has a playable demo available on Steam and Itch.io.

Set in the aftermath of a collapsed world, the game invites players into a hauntingly beautiful apocalypse where survival isn’t just about fighting monsters—it’s about protecting the people who matter most.

A Pixel Art Apocalypse With Heart

While The Road of Dust and Sorrow draws inspiration from classic survival horror titles and emotionally driven narratives like The Last of Us, it establishes its own identity through meticulously crafted pixel art and a deeply personal story.

Every environment—from crumbling streets to bloodstained corridors—is rendered with careful detail, creating a world that feels both unsettling and strangely nostalgic. That visual style helps deliver what the developers describe as a “cozy-horror” tone: a blend of quiet reflection and constant danger.

A Journey About Survival and Family

Players step into the role of Katherine, a mother navigating a devastated world while protecting her daughter, Ava. Humanity’s downfall began with a failed cure meant to end famine, but the experiment instead transformed people into feral creatures known as Dusters.

Now Katherine and Ava wander through the ruins of civilization in search of safety. Their journey quickly becomes more complicated when a mysterious preacher and his cult begin to take interest in them—seeing humanity itself as something to harvest.

The story focuses heavily on the bond between parent and child, shifting the emphasis away from endless combat and toward emotional survival. Every decision forces players to confront a difficult question: how far would you go to protect the one person you have left?

Roman, Head Developer at Painted Black Games, says the project is deeply personal for the team.

“This project is our heart. We’ve learned that when the world feels uncertain, you find strength in those you love. We built this game on that belief, and we hope players feel it too.”

A Fallen World to Explore

The game’s environments reflect a civilization long since abandoned. Streets are empty, buildings crumble from within, and nature has begun reclaiming the world. Barricaded homes, ransacked stores, and scattered supplies tell the story of humanity’s last desperate days.

Exploration plays a major role in uncovering what remains.

Survival Is Never Guaranteed

As players travel through the ruined landscape, danger is always close. Dusters roam the world with a primal hunger, turning every corridor and locked door into a potential life-or-death encounter.

Expect environmental puzzles, hidden routes, and tense confrontations as you navigate the decaying world.

Protect What Matters Most

At the center of the experience is Ava. Katherine’s mission is simple but desperate: keep her daughter alive. Whether that means fighting, fleeing, or making impossible decisions, every step forward is a risk in a world that seems determined to swallow them both.

In Dread Neighbor, players step into a tense, psychological thriller built around a progressive loop system. Subtle environmental changes slowly warp familiar surroundings, creating a persistent sense that something isn’t quite right. As players explore shadowy apartment complexes and everyday locations, the line between normal routine and creeping terror begins to blur.

The game centers on the daily life of a young woman living alone in the city. Ordinary activities—feeding the cat, heading to work, or settling in for the night—become increasingly unsettling as the feeling of being watched grows stronger. Even in moments of quiet isolation, the presence of an unseen observer looms in the background.

Building on the demo that first introduced players to the experience, the full release expands the narrative with multiple perspectives, additional indoor and outdoor locations, and tense chase sequences. The story unfolds through the viewpoints of different victims, encouraging players to piece together what’s really happening behind the disturbing events.

Ghostcase is continuing its focus on psychological pressure and immersive storytelling with the sequel. Alongside improved visuals, the game introduces a dynamic narrative structure designed to keep tension high throughout the experience. Rather than relying on sudden jump scares, the goal is to transform fear into a constant, suffocating presence that follows players from beginning to end.

According to the developer, the story taps into a very real fear many people experience while living alone. As the narrative unfolds, the experience evolves from a contained, claustrophobic mystery into a deeper psychological journey that forces players to confront the disturbing truth behind the situation.

Dread Neighbor launches May 7, 2026 on PC via Steam for $5.99.

Developer Silent Lamb Studio has officially revealed Last Summer, a new asymmetrical multiplayer horror experience heading to PC via Steam. The game pits a group of vulnerable campers against a ruthless killer in a tense cat-and-mouse battle where survival is never guaranteed.

Set at the eerie Silent Lamb Camp, what begins as a carefree summer trip quickly spirals into a nightmare. A group of friends arrives ahead of the busy season, spending their nights drinking, laughing, and sharing ghost stories around the campfire. One story in particular—about a masked killer who arrives on a ghostly train and leaves nothing but bloodshed behind—soon proves to be far more than just a legend.

Hunt or Be Hunted

Last Summer is built around asymmetrical gameplay where players choose between two very different roles. One player becomes the killer, stalking the campgrounds and eliminating every victim they can find. The remaining players take on the role of campers who must work together, think quickly, and find a way to escape before it’s too late.

Multiple escape routes, unpredictable encounters, and a variety of survival strategies mean every match unfolds differently. The constant tension between hunters and survivors keeps players on edge from beginning to end.

Dynamic Systems and Customization

The game also features a variety of systems designed to keep each session fresh. Survivors come with unique stats that directly impact gameplay, creating meaningful differences between characters and playstyles. Players can also customize their survivor’s appearance using a dedicated character tool.

Campers can collect items, fight back against the killer, and coordinate their escape plans. Meanwhile, the killer can unleash brutal execution moves while relentlessly tracking down their prey.

Set within an original horror universe and shaped by community-driven design, Last Summer aims to deliver a new spin on the asymmetrical horror genre.

Players can watch the reveal trailer and wishlist Last Summer on Steam to follow development updates. One thing is certain: once the nightmare begins at Silent Lamb Camp, not everyone is leaving alive.

Sometimes, all you need is a spoon—and a whole lot of determination. Escape By Spoon is an upcoming first-person escape sim from Paiband Studio that takes a bizarre premise and runs with it, blending light horror, comedy, and methodical progression into one strange underground journey.

You start locked in a prison cell with a single objective: escape. The problem? Your only tool is a spoon. From there, it’s all about digging your way to freedom—literally carving out tunnels beneath the prison while searching for valuables, hidden routes, and anything that might give you an edge.

The core gameplay loop is built to keep players hooked. Dig, loot, return, sell, upgrade, and head back down for another run. Each trip underground becomes a balancing act between risk and reward, as players manage limited resources like stamina, light, health, sound, and inventory space. The deeper you go, the stranger—and more dangerous—the world becomes.

But this isn’t just a straightforward escape sim. Escape By Spoon leans heavily into its unique tone, mixing tension with absurdity. Patrol-based enemies keep you on edge, punishing careless digging, while the game’s rubber-hose cartoon art style gives everything a surreal, almost theatrical feel. It’s less about outright horror and more about suspense wrapped in a bizarre, animated presentation.

Visually and mechanically, the game pulls inspiration from titles like Dave the Diver, Cuphead, and A Game About Digging a Hole—combining satisfying progression systems with a bold, memorable aesthetic.

Escape By Spoon is currently in development, with a playable demo planned for an upcoming Steam Next Fest. The full release is targeting late 2026 on Steam, offering a single-player experience that’s equal parts tense, ridiculous, and oddly satisfying.

If you’re into unconventional indie concepts with strong personality, this is one prison break worth keeping an eye on.

Developed by Brian Clarke of DarkStone Digital—the creator behind The Mortuary Assistant—Threshold builds on the same atmospheric tension and psychological dread that helped his previous project become a breakout hit in the horror space.

The game follows Daniel and Jessica Stewart, a couple documenting the renovation of their new home. What starts as a routine project quickly spirals into something far more disturbing. Hidden markings, strange objects within the walls, and an escalating supernatural presence turn their dream home into a nightmare. As the recordings continue, it becomes clear they are not alone—and whatever shares the house isn’t staying quiet.

Clarke’s signature approach to immersive horror is front and center here, blending slow-building tension with unexpected scares. Drawing inspiration from the found-footage roots of the Paranormal Activity series, the game aims to deliver a deeply unsettling experience where players actively investigate the unknown rather than just watch it unfold.

With the Paranormal Activity franchise terrifying audiences since its 2007 debut, Threshold looks to push that legacy further by putting players directly in the middle of the haunting.

The full game is currently in development for PC via Steam, but those attending PAX East will get an early taste of the fear when the demo hits the show floor later this month.

Set against the eerie backdrop of the 1980s, the game centers on the long-unsolved disappearance of Amanda—Ray’s wife—who vanished two decades prior under circumstances that hint at something far beyond ordinary explanation. What begins as a deeply personal story of loss quickly spirals into a chilling narrative that explores the possibility of alien abduction.

What sets Who Are You!? apart is its commitment to realism. The development team has collaborated with a psychologist to authentically portray the emotional toll of depression and grief tied to such a traumatic event. At the same time, researchers in the field of ufology have contributed insights to ground the game’s extraterrestrial elements in real-world investigation techniques and reported cases. The result is a story that doesn’t just aim to scare—but to unsettle on a psychological level.

The game has already gained recognition across the indie scene, earning multiple nominations and accolades. Highlights include a “Best Horror Game” nomination at the EVA Awards 2025, a spot in IndieDB’s “Top 100 Indie Games of the Year” for multiple years, and recognition for its narrative and industry impact at various Argentine award events.

With its blend of emotional storytelling, grounded research, and slow-burning horror, Who Are You!? is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing indie releases of 2026.
